Crystal Refraction estimates relative—not measured—depth, finds the main subject, cleans up tiny isolated depth specks, and keeps that subject plus a narrow protective border around it exactly as photographed. Only the remaining opaque background is bent through triangular crystal facets that follow the same pattern every time. Intensity sets how far the facets really bend the background, capped at the smaller of 0.4% of the short side or 8 pixels, and the bending fades to nothing at the frame edges, around the subject, and next to transparent areas. Each facet bends all color channels together, so only the facet seams pick up a slight rainbow fringe of at most 0.35 pixels. Restrained facet lighting is limited so it never pushes colors to pure black or white. Transparency is kept and the result is a lossless PNG. Larger uploads may be resized proportionally first: free results are delivered at web size, and very large photos are scaled down before depth analysis.
