About Merge PDF

Loads each PDF with pdf-lib, copies the page tree and embedded resources, and writes a fresh combined document. Page order matches your row order — drag the rows to rearrange. Encrypted source PDFs are loaded with ignoreEncryption when possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drop two or more PDFs onto the tool, drag the rows to set the merge order, and click Merge & Download. Pages from each source PDF are copied into a single output document in your chosen order. No upload — the merge happens entirely in your browser with pdf-lib.

usage

You can reorder entire files (drag the row up or down), and you can remove a file from the merge with the trash icon. To reorder individual pages within a PDF, run it through our Organize PDF tool first, then merge.

features

Page content (text, images, fonts, hyperlinks within a page) is preserved exactly because pdf-lib copies pages atomically rather than re-rendering them. Document-level bookmarks and the table-of-contents are reset since the new file is a fresh document — re-add bookmarks with a desktop PDF editor if needed.

technical

There is no fixed cap — the limit is your browser's memory. In practice, merging a handful of large books (500+ pages each) or hundreds of small reports works without issue on a modern laptop. Phones handle smaller jobs comfortably.

technical

No — pdf-lib runs entirely in your browser, so the merge happens locally. This is essential for confidential PDFs like contracts, NDAs, medical records, and financial statements where uploading to a third-party server is a compliance violation.

privacy

If you know the password, decrypt first with our PDF Password tool, then merge. The merge tool calls ignoreEncryption when possible, but PDFs with strict encryption (printing/copying disabled) need to be unlocked first.

features

Slightly smaller because duplicate fonts and embedded resources are deduplicated during the merge. The difference is typically a few percent — significant only when you are merging many files that share the same font set (e.g. an entire branded report series).

quality

Free, unlimited use, no watermark on the output, no signup. The page count and file count are limited only by your browser.
