Count objects in a photo automatically

Any repeated item: retail packets, boxes, bottles, toys, coins, pills, screws, beads, seeds and produce. The AI similar-item engine counts dense piles even when items touch or overlap, and you can mark 1–3 example items so it counts exactly that product. Every counted item is marked on the image so you can verify the total.

The similar-item engine is trained on dense scenes with anywhere from a handful to thousands of objects, so piles of touching items count reliably. For best results use an even, top-down photo with the items fully in frame, and mark 1–3 example items when the photo contains more than one kind of product.

For people specifically, use the dedicated People Counter, which is tuned to detect human figures in crowds and gatherings.

The counting mode tells the tool how to find items. Auto picks the best engine for your photo automatically. Similar items counts dense piles of one repeated product and works with the example markers you place. Detect objects finds distinct, separated things and draws a box around each. Start on Auto, and switch to Similar items for tightly-packed or touching objects, or Detect objects when items are clearly spaced apart.

Three controls tune the count. Raise or lower Sensitivity so faint or overlapping items are caught without counting noise. Use Ignore small detections to drop specks, shadows or background clutter that are being counted by mistake. Mark 1–3 example items so the tool counts exactly your product. Finally switch the Result overlay to dots or heatmap to see where each count came from and verify the total by eye.

After each photo is counted, tap Add to tally to add that total as its own row, then rename the row's label (e.g. "Shelf 4 — 500ml") so a multi-shelf count stays organised. The sheet keeps a running Total across every row, lets you remove a single row or Clear tally to start over, and you can Export CSV any time.

No — single-photo counting is free with no signup, but Bulk audit, which queues photos of every shelf, stack or crate and counts them all in one pass with a grand total, is Premium-only (you'll see a lock icon on the toggle). Each photo in a batch is still counted with your current Sensitivity setting, and every result feeds straight into the tally sheet.

Saving a stock-take to your account needs a free sign-in, and free accounts can keep 3 saved stock-takes at a time — delete an old one or upgrade to Premium for unlimited saved history. Sharing a saved stock-take as a read-only team link, so colleagues can view it without an account, is a Premium feature.

Exporting your tally sheet as a CSV is always free, for anyone. The branded PDF stock-take report — a formatted document with your label, count and total columns — is a Premium feature you can generate straight from the Tally panel after upgrading.

Every photo's count is added to the tally sheet automatically, so you can rename rows by location, then export the whole audit as CSV, generate a PDF report, or sign in to save it and share a read-only link with your team.

Yes — every tally row has an editable Count field, not just the Label, so you can type a corrected number directly if you spot a miscount or need to true up the total by hand. Edits update the running Total immediately, and the corrected row exports the same way to CSV or the PDF report.

No — Bulk audit only carries over your Sensitivity slider and always counts every queued photo in Auto mode. Any Counting mode you'd switched to (Similar items or Distinct objects), marked example items, Result overlay choice, or Ignore small detections value from Single photo mode are not applied to a batch run. Count photos one at a time in Single photo mode if you need exemplar-guided or Distinct objects counting on every image.

Opening a saved stock-take with Open in tally replaces whatever is currently in your tally sheet — it does not merge or append the saved rows alongside your in-progress count. Export or save your current tally first if you don't want to lose it, since there's no undo once a saved session loads in.
