Remove the background from a photo and download a transparent PNG

Upload a photo, select AI Remove Background and the subject is cut out onto a transparent background that you download as a PNG. You can then place it on a color, a blurred copy of the original, your own photo or a library design, refine the edges by hand, and resize or compress the result. This page covers the steps, what to look at before you download and the limits to know.

Cut out a subject in 3 steps

To remove the background from a photo, start with a sharp, well-lit picture, because that gives the crispest edges. A busy backdrop is fine. The cases that cause trouble are low contrast between the subject and the background and very thin detail. The output is a PNG whichever background you choose, since a JPG cannot hold transparency and would fill it with white.

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP photo.
  2. Select AI Remove Background and wait for the cut-out.
  3. Check the edges, then choose See result and download the PNG.

Fix hair, fur and thin edges by hand

Select Refine edges after the cut-out. Erase removes background that was left behind, and Restore paints the original photo back where the cut was too aggressive. You can change the brush size, zoom in, Undo a stroke or Reset to the first cut-out. The refining happens in your browser, and a Checkerboard, Gray or Dark backdrop in the viewer shows halos that a white page would hide.

Put the subject on a new background

The Background tab has 5 choices. None keeps the result transparent, Color offers 6 swatches and a custom picker, and Blur places a blurred copy of your photo behind the subject. Photo uses your own background image, and Design offers gradients and library backdrops. Add a drop shadow from the Shadow tab when the subject looks pasted on.

Resize and compress the cut-out for upload

Cut-outs can be large PNG files. To fit a size limit, reduce the pixel dimensions with the resizer and compress the PNG, keeping PNG or WebP output so the transparency stays. For a messaging sticker, add an outline and export a 512 px WebP, which does the cut-out, the outline and the export in one pass.

Switching from remove.bg

A cut-out you made elsewhere is a plain PNG and a new one is a PNG too, so nothing in your later steps has to change. The same page also continues into backgrounds, shadows, resizing and stickers. The download without Premium is web size, and a larger file and batch runs are Premium, with a credit for a single result. Compare one of your hardest photos before you switch.

Look closely before you use a cut-out

  • Zoom in on hair, fur and thin straps at full size.
  • Look at glass and other see-through objects, which are hardest to separate.
  • View the cut-out on a dark backdrop to spot halos.
  • Keep the original photo, because the cut-out is a separate PNG file.

FAQ

Is Pixoate a free remove.bg alternative?

Pixoate's AI background remover produces a clean web-size transparent PNG without an account; original resolution and batch are on Premium, with a credit option for one-off unlocks. Uploads are processed securely and auto-deleted.

Can I edit the image after removing the background?

Yes — you can resize, compress, or convert the transparent PNG, or turn the cut-out into a sticker, without leaving Pixoate.

Why does my cut-out have a light halo around the edge?

Low contrast between subject and backdrop is the usual cause. Open Refine edges, Erase the leftover fringe and check the cut-out on the Checkerboard, Gray and Dark backdrops, because a halo that vanishes on white shows on dark. A sharper, evenly lit photo helps on the next run.

Can I save the cut-out as a JPG?

The result downloads as a PNG, which keeps transparency, and it stays a PNG even when you add a color, blur, photo or design background. If a form insists on a JPG, convert the PNG afterward with an image converter, and expect any transparent areas to turn white.

How do I remove the background from many photos at once?

Switch to Batch, a Premium mode, add up to 60 images, or 200 on Pro, and download one ZIP of PNGs. A Product photos (e-commerce) preset trims, centers and pads each cut-out on a square canvas.

What size is the downloaded cut-out?

Without Premium the download is a web-size PNG. Premium or a credit unlocks a larger download, so compare the pixel size shown on the result screen with what your channel needs before you rely on it.

Does it work for people, products and pets?

The tool finds the main subject on its own, so people, products, pets and objects all work without you drawing around them. Fine hair, fur and see-through objects are the hardest cases, so zoom in on those areas and refine by hand if needed.
