Make product photos for listings: cut out, place on white, add a shadow

A listing photo usually needs the same few things. The product is cut out cleanly, the background is plain or branded, a soft shadow keeps it from floating, and the frame is a square that matches the rest of the catalog. This page shows how to do each with the Pixoate background remover and photo editor, how batch mode handles a whole folder, and what to check before the images go live.

Cut out the product and put it on white

To put a product on a white background, upload the photo and select Make background white, which gives a pure white (#FFFFFF) background in a PNG. To keep the transparent PNG instead, or to place the product on a color, a blurred copy of the photo, your own photo or a library design, use the full background remover. Zoom in on edges and packaging before you download.

Add a soft shadow and clean up the edges

After the cut-out, the Shadow tab places a drop shadow with Horizontal, Vertical, Blur and Opacity controls and a color, which keeps a product from looking pasted on. Refine edges lets you Erase leftover background and Restore parts the cut removed, such as a thin strap or a transparent handle.

Standardize a whole catalog in batch mode

Premium has a Batch mode with a Product photos (e-commerce) preset. It trims and centers each product on a square canvas of 1000, 1200 or 2000 px. The background is White, Transparent or Custom, padding runs from 0 to 30 percent, and the result is one ZIP of up to 60 images, or 200 on Pro. Set it up on a typical photo first, because the settings apply to every image.

Add text, price tags or a template

Open the finished image in the photo editor to add a headline, a price badge or a promotion. Add text and shapes, start from a template or a custom canvas size, and export PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF or PDF. For before-and-after or multi-angle layouts, arrange the photos in a collage.

Generated scenes and larger images

When a plain background is not enough, generate studio and lifestyle scenes around the product: AI Product Photos builds White studio, Lifestyle, Premium podium or Catalog set scenes. Verify packaging, labels, colors and logos in every result. A small supplier image can be enlarged with the upscaler, which gives a web-size 2x result without Premium.

Moving a product-photo routine over from Photoroom: what to check

  • Your original photos stay as they are, because every tool starts from the file you upload and leaves it unchanged.
  • Cut-out, white background and shadow are steps in one tool, so work through them in that order.
  • Check marketplace requirements for size, background and padding before you set the batch preset.
  • Compare a few cut-outs at full size for halos around hair, glass and shiny edges.

FAQ

Is Pixoate a free Photoroom alternative?

Pixoate's AI background remover produces a clean web-size transparent PNG without an account; original resolution and batch are on Premium. Uploads are processed securely and auto-deleted.

Can Pixoate replace Photoroom for product photos?

For background removal, cut-outs, resizing, compression and basic editing, yes — all in the browser. Photoroom's template-driven AI backgrounds/shadows and mobile app are its strengths; pick it if those are central to your workflow.

How do I make a white background for marketplace photos?

Upload the product photo to the White Background Maker, select Make background white and download the PNG. For many photos, use batch mode with the Product photos preset: pick a square size, choose White and set the padding. Check the marketplace rules for size and background before you upload.

Can I add a shadow under a product after removing the background?

Yes. After the cut-out, open the Shadow tab and set Horizontal, Vertical, Blur and Opacity, then pick a shadow color. The shadow is drawn in your browser from the cut-out, so you can adjust it and compare before you download.

Does batch mode keep every product centered with equal margins?

The Product photos preset trims each cut-out, centers it on a square canvas and adds the padding you choose, so products sit at a similar scale. Very different product shapes can still look different in size, so scan the ZIP before you upload.

How do I fit a product into a square image without cropping it?

Use the resizer with Maintain aspect ratio switched on and set equal width and height. The picture is placed inside the square and the extra space is filled with the background you choose, such as a white color, a blur or a gradient.

Can I put several product angles on one image?

Yes. Add the photos to the collage maker, pick Grid, Join Row or Collage, set the spacing and a background color, and export JPG, PNG or PDF. A collage takes up to 12 photos, and up to 10 uploaded images before you sign in.
