This is the classic case for per-page rotation. Scanned multi-page documents often have a mix of portrait and landscape pages, with some upside down depending on how they were fed into the scanner. Use the thumbnail view to spot each problem page and rotate it individually until everything reads upright.

No — rotating changes the page's rotation property, not the page content. Text remains selectable, images stay at full resolution, and the file size is essentially unchanged. This is far better than rotating via a screenshot or by re-rendering through a print dialog.

PDF rotation is restricted to multiples of 90° by the PDF specification — 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°. For arbitrary angles you would need to rasterise the page (which we don't do here to preserve quality). Use a desktop editor for non-standard rotations.

Use the 0° / 90° / 180° / 270° buttons in the Rotation panel to jump straight to the angle you want in one click, instead of pressing "Rotate all 90° CW" multiple times to reach 180° or 270°. In Per page mode these buttons apply only to whichever thumbnail is currently selected.

Start in "Apply to all" mode and click "Rotate all 90° CW" (or CCW) to fix the majority of pages in one action, then switch to "Per page" mode, click each problem thumbnail, and set its individual angle from the 0°/90°/180°/270° grid. Combining the bulk rotation with targeted per-page fixes handles a mixed-orientation scan far faster than rotating every page individually from the start.

Leave the mode on "Apply to all" and click "Rotate all 90° CW" (or CCW, or pick 90°/270° in the Rotation panel) — one action sets the same angle on every page, so a whole landscape document comes out at portrait proportions. When only a few pages are landscape, switch to "Per page" instead and set 90° or 270° on just those thumbnails, leaving the portrait pages at 0°.

No — choosing 90° or 270° turns the page and its content together, so a landscape scan that was captured sideways ends up reading upright on a portrait-shaped page. A document genuinely laid out in landscape, such as a slide deck or a wide spreadsheet, keeps that layout and simply sits sideways on the portrait page; nothing is re-typeset, which is also why the rotation stays lossless and the file size barely moves.

Almost always one of three things. The file is over the 20 MB free upload limit — Premium takes 50 MB and Pro 120 MB. The format is not one this tool accepts, so check the list shown on the upload panel. Or the file is not really the format its name says: renaming a file does not change what is inside it, and that is the reason a valid-looking PDF gets refused.

Page content is preserved, but anything that depended on the original file being interactive can behave differently — form fields, layers and annotations may be flattened into the page depending on the operation you ran. If you need the fields to stay fillable, do the flattening step last. Keep the untouched original until you have checked the output end to end.

The button stays unavailable until at least one page has an angle other than 0°, because saving with no turn would give you the same file back. Click Rotate all 90° CW, or choose 90°, 180° or 270° in the Rotation panel, and the hint to choose a rotation angle goes away.

There is no odd, even or range option. In Per page mode you click each page that needs a turn. To turn a long block, split it out with Split PDF, rotate that file with Apply to all, and join the parts again with Merge PDF.

Click Rotate all 90° CW and watch the thumbnails. If the pages end up upside down, you needed the other direction, so choose 270° in the Rotation panel. A page that is upside down from the start needs 180°. Nothing is saved until you select Rotate my pages, so you can try angles freely.

A PDF that asks for a password cannot be previewed, so the page reports that it could not open the file. Remove the password with Unlock PDF if you know it, then rotate the unlocked copy.

Your original file is not changed, because the saved PDF is a new copy. Upload the original again, or upload the rotated copy and turn it back by the opposite angle, such as 270° to undo a 90° clockwise turn.

Rotate PDF turns pages in quarter turns and does not mirror them. If a scan came out as a mirror image, save the pages as pictures with PDF to Images, flip them with Image Flipper, and rebuild the PDF with Image to PDF.
