How it works

Hair Color first finds each clear face, then runs a six-class portrait mask on an enlarged head-and-shoulders crop in both the original and mirrored directions. A region is accepted only when strong hair evidence is connected to the head and wins against face skin, body skin, clothing, accessories, and background. The accepted edge is aligned to source detail, then color is changed in LAB while the original luminance variation preserves strand texture. Pixels outside the verified hair mask are copied unchanged in a lossless PNG; the tool refuses uncovered-hair uncertainty instead of regenerating the face.

Processing

Hair Color uses an AI action. Any separate allowance is shown before this effect starts processing.

Best for

sharp portraits with a clear face and visible, uncovered hair against a reasonably distinct background.

Less suited to: hats, turbans, large hair occlusions, extremely fine braids or flyaways, severe backlighting, motion blur, distant faces, and hair that closely matches a busy background.

Ways to use Hair Color

  • Preview auburn, copper, blonde, brunette, black, or creative colors before dyeing hair.
  • Recolor hair without regenerating facial identity, skin texture, clothing, or background.
  • Apply the selected color independently to each clearly detected person whose hair mask passes verification.

Hair Color questions

Will Hair Color alter my face, skin, hat, or background?
No. The route returns a lossless PNG and assigns new pixels only inside the accepted hair alpha. Face and body skin, clothing, accessories, headwear, and background stay outside that mask and are copied unchanged.
Why can Hair Color refuse a portrait?
It stops when no hair component has strong, face-anchored evidence—for example on a bald head, covered hair, a distant face, or a heavily blurred image. This prevents a guessed box from tinting skin, headwear, or background.
