Frequently Asked Questions

Use our online photo border maker to upload your JPG, PNG, or WebP and choose a border thickness, color, and style. Borders are rendered on our secure servers and the result downloads at full quality with no watermark — nothing to install, ready for social media or printing.

usage

You can add frames to JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and TIFF images. Transparent PNGs are fully supported, which means you can create clean, modern outlines or polaroid-style frames while preserving edges. The final output can be downloaded as a widely compatible JPEG for easy use.

technical

Yes. Pick thin, medium, thick, or custom border thickness in pixels, choose solid colors or gradients, and optionally use rounded corners. These options help create Instagram photo borders, YouTube thumbnails with frames, or subtle website outlines that match your brand palette.

features

No. The border is applied non-destructively around the existing pixels, so your source remains crisp. We preserve the original resolution and export at high quality, making the border perfect for high-DPI displays, ecommerce product images, and print-ready graphics.

quality

For Instagram square posts, a 10–20px white or brand-color outline helps content pop against dark feeds. For YouTube thumbnails, a thicker high-contrast frame draws the eye in smaller preview sizes. Gradients and rounded corners work well for modern social branding and stories.

social

Upload your image, choose white as the border color, and set a larger bottom margin to mimic a polaroid frame. You can add text over the bottom area if you want a classic caption look. This is popular for mood boards, wedding photos, and minimalist gallery posts.

tips

The online photo border editor is free to use. Uploads are processed on our servers and auto-deleted afterwards — we don't add watermarks, and you can download the finished image instantly. It's a quick solution for creators who need a simple frame maker without installing desktop photo editing software.

pricing

Yes. If you upload a transparent PNG and apply an outline, the transparent background stays intact. This is helpful for product cutouts, logos, and stickers where you want a clean stroke while keeping the background removable in design tools or on websites.

technical

Yes. Switch to batch mode, drop in multiple images, set the border width, line style and colour once, and download them all in a single ZIP. The width is applied proportionally to each image so a mixed-size batch stays visually consistent.

features

Border Color paints the frame itself — the line, dashes, dots or gradient sitting right against your photo. Background Color fills the canvas behind it, which shows through the gaps in dashed or dotted styles and forms the surrounding mat on rounded or gradient frames. Set a white background with a black border for a classic gallery mat, or match both for a seamless outline.

features

These four styles render your frame with a 3D shading illusion using the Border Color and Background Color you pick: Groove looks carved inward, Ridge looks raised outward, Inset looks pressed into the page, and Outset looks like a raised button edge. They're subtler than a flat Solid border and suit certificate-style or vintage-frame looks — try each with the same colors to compare the depth effect.

features

Choose the Gradient border type, then set Border Color for the first color and the Gradient Color 2 swatch for the second — the frame blends smoothly between them. Gradient Color 2 only appears once Gradient is selected, making it a quick way to add a brand-colored or eye-catching two-tone frame.

usage

Pick the Polaroid border type, set Background Color to white (or off-white for a vintage feel), and keep Border Width moderate so the wider bottom caption strip reads clearly. Keep Border Color the same as the background for the classic instant-photo look, or use a soft pastel for a scrapbook style.

tips

These four options control the line pattern drawn right against your photo: Solid is one continuous line, Dashed breaks it into short dashes, Dotted uses small round dots, and Double draws two thin parallel lines with a gap between them. Background Color shows through the gaps in Dashed, Dotted and Double, so pick a contrasting background color if you want those gaps to stand out rather than blend in.

features

The slider's maximum automatically scales to 40% of your photo's longest side, so a thick border can never overwhelm a small image or look disproportionate on a large one. Upload a bigger photo and the same slider lets you drag the width further; if your current width exceeds the new limit after switching photos, it's reduced automatically so the frame still fits.

technical

Single mode's Border Width is a fixed pixel value tuned to one photo, but a batch can contain photos of very different sizes. Batch mode's Border Width slider (1-45%) is a percentage of each image's own longest side instead, so every photo in the ZIP gets a border that looks visually consistent rather than a tiny frame on a big photo and an oversized one on a small photo.

features

Rounded is the only style that doesn't draw a distinct line around your photo: it fills the frame area in your chosen Background Color and rounds the photo's own corners based on the current Border Width, giving a soft, app-icon-style edge instead of a hard rectangle. Because there's no separate line, the Gradient Color 2 and line-pattern options (dashed, dotted, groove and similar) don't apply — only Background Color and Border Width shape the look.
