How it works

Hair Shine first isolates uncovered hair with a six-class, face-anchored portrait mask checked on both the original and mirrored photo. For each detected hairstyle, it measures the source luminance range and local strand detail, then lifts only highlights that already exist inside the strong-confidence hair core by at most 18 LAB luminance units. Low-confidence feather pixels are excluded to prevent a bright background edge from becoming a halo. It does not draw glossy streaks, recolor hair, synthesize texture, or regenerate the face. The result is a lossless PNG, and every pixel outside the verified highlighted-hair mask is copied unchanged.

Processing

Hair Shine uses an AI action. Any separate allowance is shown before this effect starts processing.

Best for

sharp portraits with visible, uncovered hair that already contains natural light, tonal variation, or strand highlights.

Less suited to: hats, turbans, cropped or heavily occluded hair, tiny faces, motion blur, uniformly flat hair lighting, blown highlights, and requests for invented studio gloss.

Ways to use Hair Shine

  • Make natural strand highlights slightly clearer while retaining the original hairstyle and color.
  • Add a restrained polished finish without changing facial identity, skin, clothing, or background.
  • Enhance each safely isolated hairstyle independently in a multi-person portrait.

Hair Shine questions

Does Hair Shine paint new glossy streaks onto my hair?
No. It derives its highlight map from luminance and local detail already present inside verified hair. If the source has no usable highlight variation, the tool refuses the edit instead of inventing shine.
Will Hair Shine change my hair color or face?
No. The adjustment changes only luminance inside accepted hair-highlight pixels. It keeps the source hair chroma and copies the face, skin, clothing, accessories, and background unchanged.
