How it works

Skin Texture Preserve is a source-detail treatment, not generated skin texture or a whole-face sharpening filter. It requires exactly one complete near-front face. A dedicated face detector verifies that only one face is present, MediaPipe Face Mesh V2 verifies its full geometry, and MediaPipe six-class portrait segmentation separates face skin from hair, beard, body, clothing, accessories, and background. Exactly three bounded zones cover verified skin on the forehead and both cheeks; dilated face-mesh masks protect the eyes, irises, eyebrows, nose, and lips. A skin-mask-normalized fine-scale luminance baseline prevents background, hair, or beard pixels from entering the texture measurement. The renderer reinforces only fine LAB luminance detail already present in the upload, applies no chroma correction, and caps luminance correction at 1.5 LAB levels. It never synthesizes pores, strands, wrinkles, or any new texture. Broad skin tone, eyes, irises, eyebrows, nose, lips, inner mouth, hair, beard, facial geometry, expression, body, clothing, lighting, background, framing, uploaded alpha, and every pixel outside the three zones are copied unchanged into a lossless PNG. It never smooths, denoises, blurs, or sharpens the whole face, recolors, reshapes, inpaints, or regenerates the portrait. Multiple faces, profiles, incomplete or tiny faces, uncertain skin evidence, obstructions, and skin without enough reliable fine source detail are refused rather than guessed.

Processing

Skin Texture Preserve uses an AI action. Any separate allowance is shown before this effect starts processing.

Best for

one sharp, low-noise, evenly lit, near-front portrait with real visible skin texture and an uncovered forehead, eyebrows, eyes, cheeks, nose, lips, jaw, and chin.

Less suited to: multiple people, side profiles, tilted or cropped faces, glasses, hair or hands covering features, tiny faces, motion blur, heavy denoising, strong compression, sensor noise, heavy makeup, and skin without reliable visible source texture.

Ways to use Skin Texture Preserve

  • Keep real pore and fine-detail character legible without changing facial shape, identity, broad tone, or natural skin color.
  • Apply restrained source-only texture definition while eyes, brows, nose, lips, hair, beard, clothing, lighting, and background remain exact.
  • Use intensity to control a three-zone fine-luminance treatment that never invents texture or edits pixels elsewhere.

Skin Texture Preserve questions

Does Skin Texture Preserve generate pores or sharpen my whole face?
No. It can reinforce only fine luminance detail already measured in three verified skin zones. It creates no pores, strands, or wrinkles, applies no chroma correction, and copies protected features and the rest of the image from the source.
Why not preserve skin texture the same way virtual staging edits a room?
Virtual staging intentionally synthesizes large replaceable room regions. Credible skin texture must come from the photographed person, not a generator. This effect therefore measures existing fine detail inside three local zones, caps the correction, and refuses weak evidence instead of inventing a new face surface.
