Unlock PDF — Remove a Known Password

No, and that is deliberate. This tool removes encryption using the correct password you supply — it never cracks, guesses, or bypasses passwords. If the password you enter is wrong, decryption fails and you will see a wrong-password error. For a PDF whose password is truly lost, contact whoever created the document.

Almost always one of three things. The file is over the 20 MB free upload limit — Premium takes 50 MB and Pro 120 MB. The format is not one this tool accepts, so check the list shown on the upload panel. Or the file is not really the format its name says: renaming a file does not change what is inside it, and that is the reason a valid-looking PDF gets refused.

Page content is preserved, but anything that depended on the original file being interactive can behave differently — form fields, layers and annotations may be flattened into the page depending on the operation you ran. If you need the fields to stay fillable, do the flattening step last. Keep the untouched original until you have checked the output end to end.

The PDF does not ask for a password to open, so there is nothing to remove and no new file is made. Use the original document as it is.

This tool works from a password you type and does not guess one, so it is not a way around limits you cannot supply a password for. If you hold the password and are authorized to change the file, enter it and the downloaded copy is made without the protection.

The pages are copied as they are and only the password is removed, so text, images and page order carry over. Open the downloaded file and look through it once before you replace or send the original.
