Drop a photo — pick a shape and download a transparent PNG cutout

How to crop a photo or PFP into a heart, star, circle or other shape

This shape cropper cuts a photo into one of 38 outlines, from a circle or heart to a star, hexagon, flower or speech bubble, and saves the cutout as a transparent PNG. Pick a shape, move and size it over the part of the picture you want, and download the result. A solid background color is available for sites that reject transparency.

Crop a photo into a heart, star or triangle

To cut a photo into a shape, open the Shape tab and choose an outline from the Select Shape grid. A heart crop, a star crop and a triangle crop all work the same way: the outline appears over your photo with everything outside it dimmed. Drag the outline to the part of the picture you want to keep, and size it with the corner handles or the Width and Height buttons. The Output tab shows the cutout itself.

  1. Upload the photo you want to cut.
  2. Choose a shape in the Select Shape grid.
  3. Drag the outline over the part to keep and resize it.
  4. Open the Output tab to check the shaped result and the format.
  5. Select See result, then download the cutout.

Crop PFP into a circle, heart or other profile shape

A PFP is a profile picture, and any avatar can be cropped to a shape here. Choose Circle for the classic round profile picture, or a shape such as Heart, Squircle, Rounded Square or Hexagon for a different look. Circle and Oval keep their proportions as you resize them, while the other shapes take any width and height. To make a PFP in a shape, aim the outline at the part of the photo that holds the face and save the cutout as a PNG.

Shapes you can cut: 38 outlines

The Select Shape grid holds basic shapes (Circle, Square, Triangle, Diamond, Hexagon, Octagon, Pentagon, Oval, Cross), symbols (Heart, Star, Crescent Moon, Lightning Bolt, Arrow, Crown, Shield), nature shapes (5 flowers, Side-view Rose, Lotus, Leaf, Cloud, Butterfly, Paw Print, Teardrop, Wave) and design shapes (Rounded Square, Squircle, Arch, Pill, Speech Bubble, Ticket, Scalloped Circle, Starburst, Organic Blob).

Save the cutout as a transparent PNG or on a solid color

PNG (Transparent background) is the default Output Format, so everything outside the outline stays empty. Choose JPEG (Solid background) when a site does not accept transparency: a Background Color picker appears, and the Quality slider sets the compression. The saved file is the size of the shape's bounding box in your photo's own pixels, shown as Width and Height. Use the transparency preview to check the edges.

Round profile pictures and rectangular crops

For a plain circle image cutter with presets such as Profile, Medium and Small, use the dedicated circle crop. For a rectangular crop to a ratio such as 1:1 or 16:9, use the image cropper. Shapes are cut one at a time from one photo, and there is no freehand outline, so choose the closest ready-made shape.

Before you download the cutout

  • Check the edges in the transparency preview, on the website or checkerboard background.
  • Choose PNG for transparent areas, because JPEG fills them with the Background Color you pick.
  • Circle and Oval stay in proportion, while other shapes can be wider than tall or taller than wide.
  • Batch mode, a paid feature, cuts the same shape and position from many photos at once.

The shape downloads as a transparent PNG, ready to place over another photo with blending or caption with styled text and an outline. For a cutout that follows the subject instead of a fixed outline, remove the background with AI or cut out only a face.
