JPEG is the safest default for photos since Facebook re-compresses uploads anyway and JPEG keeps file sizes small. Choose PNG if your image has transparency or crisp text/logos you don't want softened, WebP for the smallest file at similar quality, or GIF only if you're preparing a static image that must stay compatible with an existing GIF-based workflow. The Output Format selector auto-detects PNG, WebP or GIF sources and defaults to JPEG for everything else.

Facebook crops profile pictures into a circle, so square exports can lose content at the corners. Selecting the Profile Picture preset shows a safe zone overlay marking exactly what stays visible inside that circular crop, with a Hide/Show safe zone button so you can toggle it off once you've confirmed your subject is centered correctly.
