Stretch forces the photo to fill the exact dimensions without cropping or padding, which can distort the image if the aspect ratios don't match.

Background Color fills any empty space left around your photo when you use Contain fit, or shows through a transparent PNG. It defaults to Pinterest red, but you can pick any color — white or a brand color works well for product pins and blog graphics.

Use JPG at 80-90% quality for photographic pins, since it gives the smallest file size for fast mobile loading. Choose PNG for pins with sharp text, logos or transparency — the quality slider is hidden for PNG since it isn't a lossy format. When you pick a circular-crop preset like Profile picture, a circular safe-zone guide overlays the preview so you can see exactly what will show once Pinterest crops it into a circle.
