Your image is uploaded only to resize it — processing runs on our secure server over HTTPS and the file is deleted automatically afterwards, so unreleased product photos, blog graphics and brand visuals are never stored or shared. If you need a strictly offline, never-uploaded workflow, use a desktop image editor instead.

Cover fills the whole pin size by cropping any excess from your photo, so nothing is squashed but the edges may be trimmed. Contain shrinks your photo to fit entirely inside the pin size, adding padding in your chosen Background color around it so nothing is cropped. Stretch forces the photo to fill the exact dimensions without cropping or padding, which can distort the image if the aspect ratios don't match.

Background Color fills any empty space left around your photo when you use Contain fit, or shows through a transparent PNG. It defaults to Pinterest red, but you can pick any color — white or a brand color works well for product pins and blog graphics.

Use JPG at 80-90% quality for photographic pins, since it gives the smallest file size for fast mobile loading. Choose PNG for pins with sharp text, logos or transparency — the quality slider is hidden for PNG since it isn't a lossy format. WEBP or AVIF give smaller files than JPG at the same quality if you're hosting the pin image yourself rather than uploading straight to Pinterest.

When you pick a circular-crop preset like Profile picture, a circular safe-zone guide overlays the preview so you can see exactly what will show once Pinterest crops it into a circle. Toggle it with the show/hide safe-zone button in the top-right of the preview to confirm your subject is centered before downloading.

Pick the Profile picture preset (165×165), use Cover fit so your face fills the circle without letterboxing, and keep the safe-zone overlay on to confirm nothing important — like text or a logo edge — falls outside the circular crop. Export as PNG if your source photo already has a clean background, or JPG at 90%+ quality for a photo with a busy background.

Board cover is 600 × 600 (the small thumbnail Pinterest shows at the top of a board), Profile cover is 800 × 450 (a 16:9 banner behind your profile photo), and Video pin (square) is 1080 × 1080 for square video content or its thumbnail.
