MOS to JPG: opening Leaf digital back files

MOS is the RAW format of Leaf medium-format digital backs, such as the Aptus and Valeo series, which were mounted on Mamiya, Hasselblad and other medium-format bodies for fashion, advertising and studio photography. Mamiya's DM-series backs were made with Leaf and also write MOS. Files like these turn up in agency archives, on studio drives and in handovers from photographers who have since changed systems.

The JPG is developed at the back's full resolution with the white balance saved at capture. Leaf backs shoot squarer frames than the 3:2 of most cameras, so crop to the shape of your layout where needed. The biggest files from 80-megapixel backs may be too large for the converter; Capture One can export those.

For a client review of a whole shoot, Premium's batch mode returns up to 60 JPGs in one ZIP (200 on Pro). Choose MOS to PNG when a frame is going to a retoucher, and shrink finished JPGs to a set file size for email.
