Counting pumpkins in the patch, in bins and on display
Pumpkin growers estimate yield across the patch before harvest, count bins as they fill, and farm stands and garden centers check stock through a short, busy fall selling season. Early on, leaves hide most of the fruit; once the vines die back, a drone or high viewpoint over the patch shows the orange shapes clearly against the soil.
Large wooden bins hold pumpkins several deep, so only the top layer is visible from above; count the bins as units, or count pumpkins as they go in. Displays often mix varieties: orange carving pumpkins, white or blue ones, small decorative gourds and warty heirlooms. Mark one example of each kind you want counted, up to three, and leave gourds out if they are tallied separately. Straw bales, signs and props in a display can earn dots, so review the edges of the scene.
Name tally rows after the field block, bin number or display, then export the CSV for the season record. Watermelons are handled on the watermelon counter, and headed crops such as cabbage, counted bed by bed, have their own field guide.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it work on a loose pile?
- It can only mark the visible layer. Spread items one layer deep, mark a clear example, and review and correct the result markers. Treat a visible-face count on a large pile as an estimate and use the same framing between checks.
- What if the photo has more than just pumpkins in it?
- The counter automatically looks for pumpkins in your photo. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
