Counting rice, wheat and maize sacks in a grain store

Mills, traders and storage operators count grain sacks at intake, at dispatch and for stored-crop records, and the figure is usually checked against the weighbridge ticket and the delivery note. Store stacks are built to a regular plan, a fixed number of bags per layer and a set number of layers, which makes a careful face count worthwhile. Photograph the long face of each stack square-on, from a point opposite its middle.

Woven polypropylene bags carry brand prints and lot stencils that repeat on every bag; if those prints pick up dots, mark one whole bag as an example. Grain dust settles on the upper layers and lowers contrast. Stacks under fumigation covers or tarpaulins cannot be counted from a photo until they are uncovered. Because the rows behind the face stay hidden, a face count multiplied by stack depth is an estimate; walk the stack to confirm it is equally deep everywhere.

Label each tally row with the stack number and commodity and keep the CSV with the store register. Building bags have their own cement bag counter, produce in mesh nets is handled by the onion sack page, and hand-tied harvest bundles before threshing are covered on the crop bundle counter.

Frequently asked questions

Can it count a full stack when some items are hidden?
It can only estimate the visible photo content. For regular stacks, photograph and review each accessible face, correct the tally, and treat any multiplication by depth as an estimate. A marked image supports review but does not prove the physical quantity.
What if the photo has more than just grain sacks in it?
Auto mode uses the selected item name to find what to count. For a guided recount, mark one complete, clearly visible grain sacks — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
Can I count several photos into one total?
Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. If you use example boxes, mark them separately on each photo. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
Is it free and private?
Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.

How Fruit Counter helps you get it done

Real problems it solves every day — for businesses, creators, and everyday tasks. Find the use case that fits you and start.

For Business

Harvest Day Yield Tracking

Open Bulk audit to run Distinct objects mode across every crate photo, then review every result before comparing the running total with last season.

For E-commerce

Farmers' Market & Roadside Stall Stock

Run Similar items mode on one fruit type before opening and again at close, then review and correct both tallies before using their difference as a sales estimate.

Research

Orchard Sampling for Yield Estimates

Photograph a well-lit section of canopy and let the AI count visible fruit as a sampling method, using the Detection sensitivity slider to tune for partially hidden fruit when estimating a full orchard's yield.

For Business

Packhouse Grading & Crate Review

Mark 1-3 example fruit in the Examples setting — one per variety in the crate — and use the Similar items result as a draft before a crate is sealed. Then inspect the physical crate and correct misses or duplicates before packhouse sign-off.

Legal

Wholesale Delivery Count Review

Use the marked image to review an AI-assisted delivery draft, compare it with a qualified manual or physical count, and save the corrected tally with normal delivery records. The image is not proof of quantity by itself.

Personal Use

Home Garden Harvest Counting

Photograph a basket of home-grown tomatoes, apples or berries at pick time for a harvest estimate, then review and correct the markers before adding a tally row for the season.

Watch each transformation land

Every photo crosses the slash untouched and comes out the other side finished.
