Tips for an accurate count
• Use an even, well-lit photo with the stamps fully in frame
• Check that each marked example boxes a whole stamps rather than a repeated part
• Dots and heatmap show retained detections — review and correct the tally
About the Stamps Counter
The stamps counter counts visible stamps from your photo and marks detections for review. Auto mode uses the selected item name. For a guided recount, mark up to three examples of what you want counted. Visibility, overlap and similar-looking items can affect the total. Built for shops, cash offices, venues and event teams.
How It Works
1. Photograph your stamps
2. Check that stamps is selected, then choose Count
3. Review the markers and correct the tally; add example boxes for a guided recount if needed
4. Add to the tally sheet and export your count as CSV
Perfect For
• Mailroom stamp stock counts before a postal run
• Cataloguing a philatelic collection with markers
• Checking a purchased sheet against the stated count
• Postage reconciliation against a mailing list
Counting postage stamps on sheets, in albums and loose
Stamps reach a counter in three forms: full or partial sheets in a mailroom, mounted stamps in a collector's album, and loose used stamps on paper. Mailrooms count sheets to check postage stock before a mailing, collectors keep a marked image as part of cataloging, and buyers check a purchased sheet against the stated count. On a sheet, the perforations give every stamp a clear border, which helps.
Lay sheets flat, with the corners weighted down if they curl, and photograph from directly above so the grid is square. Album pages with protective film reflect the room, so lift the film or angle the light. Mark one complete stamp, perforations included, as the example in Similar items; otherwise a sheet with wide margins and printed gutters can pick up blank areas. Loose used stamps vary in design, so mark up to three typical ones.
Large commemoratives and small definitives on one page count better as separate examples. Record each sheet or album page as a tally row once the markers are checked. Mailrooms matching postage to outgoing post can count the envelopes in a mailing into the same tally, and tickets or vouchers photograph in a similar flat layout.
Stamp photo checks
- Sheet flat and square to the camera
- Protective film lifted or angled away from the light
- One complete stamp with its perforations marked
- One tally row per sheet or album page
Frequently asked questions
- Do the items need to be separated before counting?
- Slight touching can work, but full overlaps hide items and make the result less reliable. Spread them one layer deep under even light, mark a clear example, and review every result marker.
- What if the photo has more than just stamps in it?
- Auto mode uses the selected item name to find what to count. For a guided recount, mark one complete, clearly visible stamps — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. If you use example boxes, mark them separately on each photo. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
