How it works

The image is rendered in Prussian blue and white on textured paper, with hand-brushed emulsion edges that stop short of the frame and leave visible brushstroke boundaries.

Processing

Brushed Cyanotype runs as a classic image effect and does not use an AI action.

Best for

botanical and nature prints, architectural studies, fine-art photography, and handmade-feeling wall art.

Less suited to: images depending on color, since cyanotype is monochrome blue by chemistry.

Ways to use Brushed Cyanotype

    Brushed Cyanotype questions

    What is a cyanotype?
One of the earliest photographic processes, using iron salts that turn deep Prussian blue on exposure to ultraviolet light. It was used for architectural blueprints and for the first photographically illustrated book, of British algae.
    Why are the edges irregular?
Because the light-sensitive solution is brushed onto paper by hand, so coverage stops wherever the brush did. Those uneven edges are the most recognisable sign of a hand-made cyanotype rather than a blue filter.
