Rebuild captured documentation without retyping every line
Bring a document screenshot back into editable text, with tables rebuilt as pipe tables. Crop unrelated interface elements and review the reading order and tables before moving the content into a README, note or documentation page.
Documentation shown only in a screen capture
Recover visible instructions and lists for editing, retaining source context and checking the order of the captured content.
Comparison tables for project notes
Convert a screenshot table into Markdown syntax and preview its columns in the editor that will display the note.
Capture the document area and check the rendered Markdown
- Capture the relevant document area without menus, tooltips or clipped lines.
- Generate Markdown, compare the lines and table columns with the screen capture, and add heading and list marks.
- Correct the text and preview it in your destination's Markdown renderer.
Missing link destinations, hidden sections and renderer differences
- Does screenshot to Markdown recover the webpage's HTML?
- No. It recognizes the visible screenshot. The source HTML, styles and hidden page content are not available from the pixels.
- Will links in the screenshot keep their destination URLs?
- A destination is only recoverable if it is visibly written. Add and verify link targets yourself when the screenshot shows only link labels.
- Why does the same Markdown table look different in another editor?
- Markdown renderers vary in table support and styling. Preview the output where you intend to use it and adjust syntax as needed.
- Can I recover content behind a collapsed screenshot section?
- No. Expand the section before capturing it. Recognition cannot read content that is absent from the screenshot.
- How do I convert a long README from several screenshots?
- Capture it in sections with a few lines of overlap, convert each in order and paste the results into one file. Delete the repeated overlap and recheck the join points, where a sentence can be split across two screenshots. Heading levels then need to be added consistently across the whole file.
- Why do emoji and icons look wrong in the Markdown?
- Emoji, badges and icons are pictures, not letters, so the reader may skip them or return an odd character. Replace them by typing the emoji or removing the badge line. The same applies to logos and decorative bullets in the capture.
- What does Copy Markdown copy?
- Copy Markdown copies everything in the box at that moment, including edits you typed. See result opens the download page for the first reading, and once you change the text the main button becomes Download .md and saves your edited version instead.
- Can I paste the result straight into GitHub or a wiki?
- Yes, it is plain text, and tables are rebuilt as pipe tables. Preview first, since renderers differ in table support, and fix headings, links and code fences that the screenshot could not carry. Check names, commands and version numbers against the picture.
- Is a screenshot of a chat conversation a good fit for Markdown?
- It works for archiving the words. Each message arrives as lines of text, with names and timestamps mixed in as printed. Add speaker labels and quote marks yourself, and remove any avatar letters or reaction counts that came through.
- Why does the Markdown contain menu words I did not want?
- Browser menus, navigation bars and buttons in the capture are text too, so they are read like the document. Delete those lines in the box, or crop the screenshot to the content area before you upload it to keep them out entirely.
