DNG to JPG for iPhone ProRAW, Android RAW, drone and Leica files
DNG is Adobe's open RAW format, so the same extension comes from very different devices. iPhones from the 12 Pro onward save ProRAW photos as DNG, Google Pixel and many other Android phones write DNG when RAW is turned on, DJI drones record RAW stills as DNG, and Leica cameras, Ricoh GR models and many Pentax bodies save it as their RAW format. Adobe's DNG Converter and Lightroom also make DNG copies of other cameras' files. Whichever device made yours, this page develops it into a JPG that opens anywhere.
The JPG is built from the raw image data with the white balance stored in the file. Edits made in the iPhone Photos app or in Lightroom are kept apart from that data, so they are not applied; for an edited version, export it from the app that holds the edits. A phone RAW can also look different from the photo the camera app displayed, because the app showed its own processed rendering rather than the raw data.
Size is the other surprise. A 48-megapixel ProRAW file is many times larger than the HEIC or JPG the same iPhone would save, and without a plan each upload can be up to 20 MB (50 MB on Premium, 120 MB on Pro). The JPG you get back is far smaller; to go further, compress it to around 500 KB for forms and email, or resize it for an Instagram post. If you need a lossless file for editing, try DNG to PNG.
Check the JPG from your DNG
- Brightness and color look right against the real scene, not only against the phone preview
- Edits you made in another app are missing by design; export those from that app
- Drone shots have a level horizon and keep detail in bright skies
- The file is small enough for the form, chat or site you are sending it to
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert DNG to JPG?
- Upload your DNG file above. It is converted to JPG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
- Does converting DNG to JPG lose quality?
- JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy.
- DNG or JPG: which should I use?
- Use DNG for adjusting exposure and white balance with maximum latitude. Use JPG for photos you share, email, print or upload. Keep in mind the main drawback of JPG: no transparency, and every re-save loses a little more detail.
- What is a DNG file?
- DNG is Adobe’s open RAW format (Digital Negative), used by phones such as iPhone ProRAW and Google Pixel, by drones, and by Leica and Pentax cameras. It stores the unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude, so most apps can’t show it as a normal picture.
- Can I convert DNG to JPG without Photoshop or Lightroom?
- Yes. The DNG file is opened on our servers, so you don’t need Photoshop or Lightroom or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished JPG.
- Is the DNG to JPG converter free?
- Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
