Why convert EPS to JPG?

  • JPG is supported far more widely than EPS, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
  • JPG is made for photos you share, email, print or upload.
  • No Illustrator needed: the file is opened on our servers and you download a ready-to-use JPG.

What to expect when converting EPS to JPG

  • JPG uses lossy compression; raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy of the original.
  • The EPS is drawn at a fixed pixel size, so the JPG won’t stay sharp if you enlarge it later. Keep the original for editing.

Opening an EPS logo as a JPG without design software

EPS files usually arrive from a designer, a brand kit or a stock site, and the person receiving them simply needs to see the logo or drop it into a document. The converter draws the EPS and trims it to the bounding box recorded in the file, so you get the artwork itself rather than a small mark in the middle of an empty sheet. Print colors (CMYK) are turned into the RGB colors screens use.

The output size depends on the physical size of the artwork: the EPS is drawn at 150 dots per inch, so every inch becomes 150 pixels. A logo saved 2 inches wide comes out about 300 pixels wide, fine for a letter or an email but small for a banner. The drawing is placed on white before it reaches the JPG, so the Background fill setting changes nothing here. For logos, leave quality at 90 or higher: from 90 up, colored lettering keeps clean edges instead of smudging.

For a larger, sharper image, go through PDF: convert the EPS to a vector PDF, then save that page as an image at 300 DPI, which doubles the width and height. If the JPG has to fit an upload limit, compress it to 100 KB.

Checking an EPS conversion

  • Compare the colors with the brand guide, since CMYK artwork is converted for screens.
  • Look closely at the lettering: text that wasn't converted to outlines and has no embedded font is drawn in a similar substitute typeface.
  • Check the pixel width before placing the JPG in a banner or slide.
  • If the page says it couldn't open the file, the EPS may be damaged or saved in a form the converter can't read yet; ask the sender for a PDF or SVG export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert EPS to JPG?
Upload your EPS file above. It is converted to JPG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting EPS to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy.
EPS or JPG: which should I use?
Use EPS for sending logos and artwork to printers and sign makers. Use JPG for photos you share, email, print or upload. Keep in mind the main drawback of JPG: no transparency, and every re-save loses a little more detail.
What is a EPS file?
EPS is a long-established print format for logos and illustrations. Print shops still ask for it, but browsers, phones and office apps can’t display it.
Can I convert EPS to JPG without Illustrator?
Yes. The EPS file is opened on our servers, so you don’t need Illustrator or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished JPG.
Is the EPS to JPG converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
