AI Grains Counter

Count grains in a sample from a photo

Works with JPG, PNG, WEBP · Free up to 20 MB, Premium 50 MB

Spread the grains one layer deep on a tray or flat surface and photograph from directly above — counted detections receive dots for review. Built for seed labs, agronomists and crop researchers — review and correct each photo before adding it to a CSV or PDF tally.

  • Review the photo, then count visible grains
  • Count without marking; add example boxes if you need a guided recount
  • Stop counting the same grains twice to be sure of the total

Counting grain kernels in a rice, wheat or maize sample

Grain kernels are counted for sample work: kernel counts on rice, wheat and maize samples, grading checks that need the same framing every time, extension and classroom demonstrations, and draft tallies for a quality record a person signs off. The kernels are small, similar and easily nudged into each other, so the layout makes most of the difference.

Pale grains such as rice and wheat show best on a dark, matte tray, and dark or colored kernels on a light one. Rice is slightly translucent, so a dark background keeps each kernel outline crisp. Kernels lying end to end can join into one long shape; tap the tray and push them apart. Decide before counting whether broken kernels count, mark a whole kernel as the example in Similar items, and add a broken kernel as a second example only if your method counts brokens.

Repeat samples only compare when the tray, camera height and light stay the same. Check the markers, then add the sample to the tally with its lot and date. Whole seeds for sowing are covered by the seed counter, and sacks of grain in a store by the grain sack counter.

Grain sample checks

  • Dark tray for pale kernels, light tray for dark ones
  • Kernels pushed apart, none lying end to end
  • A rule decided for broken kernels
  • The same tray, height and light for every sample

Frequently asked questions

Do the items need to be separated before counting?
Slight touching can work, but full overlaps hide items and make the result less reliable. Spread them one layer deep under even light, mark a clear example, and review every result marker.
What if the photo has more than just grains in it?
Auto mode uses the selected item name to find what to count. For a guided recount, mark one complete, clearly visible grains — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
Can I count several photos into one total?
Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. If you use example boxes, mark them separately on each photo. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
Is it free and private?
Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.

How Fruit Counter helps you get it done

Real problems it solves every day — for businesses, creators, and everyday tasks. Find the use case that fits you and start.

For Business

Harvest Day Yield Tracking

Open Bulk audit to run Distinct objects mode across every crate photo, then review every result before comparing the running total with last season.

For E-commerce

Farmers' Market & Roadside Stall Stock

Run Similar items mode on one fruit type before opening and again at close, then review and correct both tallies before using their difference as a sales estimate.

Research

Orchard Sampling for Yield Estimates

Photograph a well-lit section of canopy and let the AI count visible fruit as a sampling method, using the Detection sensitivity slider to tune for partially hidden fruit when estimating a full orchard's yield.

For Business

Packhouse Grading & Crate Review

Mark 1-3 example fruit in the Examples setting — one per variety in the crate — and use the Similar items result as a draft before a crate is sealed. Then inspect the physical crate and correct misses or duplicates before packhouse sign-off.

Legal

Wholesale Delivery Count Review

Use the marked image to review an AI-assisted delivery draft, compare it with a qualified manual or physical count, and save the corrected tally with normal delivery records. The image is not proof of quantity by itself.

Personal Use

Home Garden Harvest Counting

Photograph a basket of home-grown tomatoes, apples or berries at pick time for a harvest estimate, then review and correct the markers before adding a tally row for the season.

Watch each transformation land

Every photo crosses the slash untouched and comes out the other side finished.
