Frequently asked questions
- How high should the drone or camera be?
- High enough that the whole area fits in one frame, low enough that each item is still a clear shape — a few dozen pixels across is a good target. Keep the camera pointing straight down and the light even, then review every marker before using the total. Two passes only compare with each other if the height and angle match.
- Does it count single modules or whole tables?
- It counts whatever you mark. Mark one module and it tallies modules; mark one complete table and it tallies tables instead. Panels at a steep angle to the camera foreshorten and can merge, so shoot as close to straight down as the site allows and review every marker.
- What if the photo has more than just solar panels in it?
- Your marked examples tell the counter exactly what to count. Drag a tight box around one complete, clearly visible solar panels — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds — and only matching items are counted. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo with its own marked examples, and add every result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. A marked example belongs to the photo it was drawn on, so mark each photo as you go. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
