Frequently Asked Questions

Upload two images of the same dimensions and the tool overlays them with a draggable handle. Slide left to reveal the before image, slide right to reveal the after — useful for showing edits, retouching, weight-loss, renovation, design iteration and AI generation results.

usage

Yes. Export the slider as an MP4 or animated GIF that loops the swipe automatically — ideal for Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn posts where viewers cannot drag a handle. Frame rate and duration are configurable.

features

Ideally yes, since the slider compares pixel-for-pixel. When sizes differ, the tool offers to auto-crop or scale the second image to match the first, preserving the aspect ratio so the comparison stays accurate.

technical

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC are all accepted. The exported video uses H.264 MP4 for maximum compatibility, and the GIF export keeps file size small enough for fast social sharing.

compatibility

The side-by-side comparison preview happens in your browser, but exporting the composite uploads both images to our secure server so the final file can be rendered; they are removed under our Security policy and never shared or used to train models. For strictly confidential material where no upload is acceptable, capture a screenshot of the on-screen preview instead of using Export.

privacy

Yes. Copy the generated HTML snippet and paste it into WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Shopify or any static site. The embed is dependency-free, mobile-friendly and works without external JavaScript libraries.

web

Use the Orientation control in the Compare panel to toggle between Horizontal (left-right swipe, best for landscape photos and side-by-side layouts) and Vertical (top-bottom swipe, better for tall portrait shots or before/after height comparisons like renovations or growth photos).

features

Split % sets where the divider line sits between the before and after image, from 0 (all after visible) to 100 (all before visible) — it defaults to 50 for an even split. Move it toward one side if you want more of a specific image visible in the exported composite, for example 70 to emphasize the "after" result.

usage

Click the Swap button in the Compare panel to instantly exchange the before and after images without re-uploading — handy if you dropped them in the wrong order or want to flip the reveal direction for a different visual effect.

usage

For a full-room renovation, Vertical orientation at a 50% split works well since it lets viewers compare top-to-bottom detail like flooring and ceiling changes. For side-by-side furniture or color changes, Horizontal orientation at a 40–60% split (favoring whichever image has the more striking result) tends to draw the eye most effectively.

tips

Almost always one of three things. The file is over the 11 MB free upload limit — Premium takes 50 MB and Pro 120 MB. The format is not one this tool accepts, so check the list shown on the upload panel. Or the file is not really the format its name says: renaming a file does not change what is inside it, and that is the reason a valid-looking image gets refused.

troubleshooting

It reports what is genuinely in the file, so a blank or surprising result usually means the data was never there — stripped by the app that last saved it, removed by a platform on upload, or absent from the original. Try the untouched original file straight from the camera or source rather than a copy that has been through a messaging app.

troubleshooting

No to both. Image Compare Slider is free, your download carries no watermark, and nothing is asked for at the end — there is no point in the flow where you finish the work and then discover it costs money.

pricing

No — Image Compare Slider runs in the browser on desktop and phone. There is nothing to install, no trial to start, and no license to buy before you can see whether it does what you need. Try it on the file you are actually stuck with rather than a sample.
