How to remove unwanted objects and people from a photo with AI
This AI object remover erases a person, a cable, a sign or a pile of clutter from a photo and rebuilds the background behind it. Describe what should go, pick a preset, or paint over it yourself for exact control. It suits quick AI photo cleanup on travel, product and listing pictures. AI edits can vary, so check the repaired area and its surroundings before you use the result.
Remove an unwanted object from a photo
The four presets are Remove person, Remove cables, Remove sign and Remove clutter, and each one fills in an instruction you can edit. Naming where the object is and what color it has gives the tool the most to go on. When it cannot find a safe area from your words, it opens the brush and keeps your instruction, so you can paint the object yourself.
- Upload a photo with the object you want gone.
- Choose a preset, or describe the object in the What should we remove? box.
- Add its position and color, such as the red chair beside the window.
- Select Generate Magic eraser and wait for the result.
- Compare it with your original, then download the PNG.
Paint over the object for exact control
Refine area manually opens a brush with a size slider so you can cover the object yourself. Only the pink pixels you paint are replaced, which keeps the rest of the photo under your control. Use it for one person in a crowd, for thin objects such as wires, or when your description could match more than one thing.
Erase text from picture files: a sign, a caption or a date stamp
Removing text from images starts with the brush: paint over the words, or describe them and where they sit, such as the caption across the bottom. Removing text from picture areas with a busy texture is harder to rebuild than lettering on plain sky or wall, so zoom in and check the area. For a camera date stamp or a text watermark, let the tool detect and remove it automatically, and to put different words in the same spot, swap the old text for new text.
Clean up several photos or swap instead of erase
Several photos with the same distraction, such as a sign in every shot, can go through Batch images: describe the object once, upload the set and download a ZIP, which needs Premium. Batch runs have no brush, so use single image mode when an object needs painting. To put something else where the object was, swap the object for a different one.
Before you download the cleaned photo
- Check the repaired area, nearby edges and any text or logos, because AI edits can vary.
- Use an opaque photo; transparent PNGs are rejected, so flatten them onto a solid color first.
- With Premium, photos above 2048 px on the longest side are prepared at 2048 px and the result keeps that size; without Premium the result is a web-size copy.
- The result downloads as a PNG named after your file with the edit type added.
After the object is gone
If you would rather put something in its place, swap the object for a different one; to hide a face or license plate instead of erasing it, pixelate or blur just that area.
A camera date stamp on your own photo is handled by automatic date stamp cleanup.
