  • JPG is made for photos you share, email, print or upload.
  • No Photoshop or Lightroom needed: the file is opened on our servers and you download a ready-to-use JPG.

What to expect when converting NRW to JPG

NRW to JPG for Nikon Coolpix RAW photos

Nikon uses NRW only for Coolpix compacts that can shoot RAW, such as the P1000 superzoom and the P7000 series. Its DSLRs and Z-series mirrorless cameras write NEF, which has its own NEF to JPG page. If yours is a long-zoom Coolpix, many of the NRW files you'll convert are probably birds, aircraft or the moon shot at the long end of the lens.

Small-sensor compacts lean on in-camera processing, and this converter doesn't repeat it. Coolpix JPGs typically get distortion control, noise reduction and sharpening inside the camera; the JPG made here comes straight from the sensor data with the recorded white balance. Straight lines near the frame edge can bow slightly at the wide end, and high-ISO frames can look grainier. Brightness is set automatically, so check bright subjects such as the moon for lost surface detail.

After converting, crop in on the subject rather than sharing the whole frame, then size it for an Instagram post if that is where it is going. The default quality of 90 keeps fine feather and crater texture; lowering it mainly helps when an upload form limits the file size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert NRW to JPG?
Upload your NRW file above. It is converted to JPG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting NRW to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy.
NRW or JPG: which should I use?
Use NRW for adjusting exposure and white balance with maximum latitude. Use JPG for photos you share, email, print or upload. Keep in mind the main drawback of JPG: no transparency, and every re-save loses a little more detail.
What is a NRW file?
NRW is the RAW format of Nikon Coolpix compact cameras. It stores the unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude, so most apps can’t show it as a normal picture.
Can I convert NRW to JPG without Photoshop or Lightroom?
Yes. The NRW file is opened on our servers, so you don’t need Photoshop or Lightroom or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished JPG.
Is the NRW to JPG converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
