Why convert RAF to JPG?

  • JPG is supported far more widely than RAF, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
  • JPG is made for photos you share, email, print or upload.
  • No Photoshop or Lightroom needed: the file is opened on our servers and you download a ready-to-use JPG.

What to expect when converting RAF to JPG

  • JPG uses lossy compression; raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy of the original.
  • The RAW file is developed at full resolution with your camera's white balance. Keep the original RAF to re-edit exposure later.

RAF to JPG without Fujifilm film simulations

RAF files come from Fujifilm X-series and GFX cameras and from older FinePix models that offered RAW. Many Fujifilm owners shoot for the film simulations, such as Provia, Velvia, Classic Chrome or Acros, and expect to see them in every converted file. They are not there: a film simulation is applied when the camera makes its own JPG, while this converter develops the RAF from the sensor data using only the recorded white balance and automatic brightness.

So a converted RAF looks more neutral than the in-camera JPG, and an Acros frame comes out in color. If you want the simulation look, the RAW conversion option in the camera's playback menu can make a JPG with any simulation, and a RAW+JPEG shot already has one. Convert here when you need a JPG from a RAF without the camera at hand, or when the simulation doesn't matter.

File size is the other thing to plan for. RAFs from 40-megapixel X-series bodies and GFX cameras are often bigger than 20 MB, the free upload size; Premium accepts files up to 50 MB and Pro up to 120 MB, and files from the 100-megapixel GFX models may be too large to convert at all. After converting, make a 1080 × 1080 square for social feeds or shrink the JPG to about 1 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert RAF to JPG?
Upload your RAF file above. It is converted to JPG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting RAF to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy.
RAF or JPG: which should I use?
Use RAF for adjusting exposure and white balance with maximum latitude. Use JPG for photos you share, email, print or upload. Keep in mind the main drawback of JPG: no transparency, and every re-save loses a little more detail.
What is a RAF file?
RAF is the RAW format of Fujifilm X-series and GFX cameras. It stores the unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude, so most apps can't show it as a normal picture.
Can I convert RAF to JPG without Photoshop or Lightroom?
Yes. The RAF file is opened on our servers, so you don't need Photoshop or Lightroom or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished JPG.
Is the RAF to JPG converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
