Compress Image to 1000KB
Target loaded automatically
Reduce any JPG, PNG or WebP photo to 1000KB online for free. The compressor automatically searches for the highest quality that gets closest to 1000 kilobytes, so your image stays as sharp as possible for the 1000KB upload limit. Files are processed on secure servers and auto-deleted afterwards.
- Forms and portals capped at 1000KB
- Email or message attachments near a 1000KB limit
- Smaller web images with a measured size result

Getting a photo under 1,000 KB for a 1 MB upload limit
Contact forms, support tickets and job applications sometimes cap uploads at 1 MB, and a phone photo of several megabytes will not fit. This page targets 1,000 KB, a budget that leaves room for high quality, and for many photos the dimensions stay untouched because lowering quality alone is enough.
Megabytes are counted two ways, which matters right at the limit. Here 1 KB is 1,024 bytes, so 1,000 KB means up to 1,024,000 bytes: below a binary megabyte of 1,048,576 bytes but above a decimal megabyte of 1,000,000 bytes. If a form says 1 MB and still rejects the file, enter 976 in Target file size, which keeps the file under 1,000,000 bytes.
The KB target applies to JPG, PNG and WebP output. GIF output follows its own compression and ignores the target, so for an animated GIF use the GIF compressor. After compressing, open the result at full size, and if a stricter form needs a smaller file, try the 500 KB target.
Compress image to 1000KB: get a photo under 1000 KB, just under 1 MB
This image compressor to 1000KB compresses a photo toward 1000 KB and saves it as a JPG. That is just under 1 MB, so a picture of several megabytes can often be brought down in a single run while keeping its pixel size. Upload the file, select See result, and compare the new size with the limit on the form before you send anything.
Compress a photo to 1000KB step by step
Target file size (KB) already reads 1000 on the Quality tab, and the quality slider is switched off while it does. A photo about 2,000 pixels across fits at the top quality the compressor uses, and a full camera photo of 3,000 to 4,000 pixels usually fits by lowering quality alone, so its width and height stay as they were. Run it once and read both sizes on the result screen.
- Upload the photo; HEIC, PNG and WebP files are converted to JPG in the same run.
- Check that Target file size (KB) shows 1000 and Output Format is JPEG.
- Select See result and compare the original size with the new size.
- Download the file, or choose Edit again and enter a lower number if it is still over.
Why the result can land well under 1000 KB
The compressor looks for the highest quality that fits, and quality stops rising at a fixed ceiling. A picture that is small, plain or already compressed reaches that ceiling before it gets near the limit, and typing a larger number would not make the file any bigger. That is fine for an upload limit. Only a form that sets a minimum needs a larger original.
Keep a PDF or a group of files under 1000 KB
This page saves an image, not a PDF. When a form wants a PDF, turn the picture into a PDF, look at the PDF's size, and if it is over, shrink the PDF with a compression level, which has no exact-size field.
When the limit covers several files together, divide it: a total of 1,000 KB shared by four photos means about 250 KB each, so enter 250 in the target field, or use the 200 KB page for a safer margin.
Before you upload
- Compare the size on the result screen with the limit on the form, since that is the size of the file you will download.
- Open the JPG at full size and look at skies and skin for banding or blocks.
- Check the width and height if the form also names pixels.
- Keep the original; the compressed copy is only for the upload.

- The compressor searches for the highest usable quality that gets closest to the 1000KB goal.
- Output setup
- JPEG selected for size efficiency
- The quality slider is locked while the target is active (clear the target to use it), and another supported output format can still be chosen before processing.
- Review rule
- Confirm the result is at or below 1000KB
- The preview shows quality only; check the size on the result screen, and the dimensions, before using the file in a strict upload form.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I compress an image to 1000KB?
- Upload your photo and the tool works toward 1000KB by lowering quality just enough to fit. The quality slider is locked while a target is set (clear the target to use it), and the size appears on the result screen, so check that it is under 1000KB.
- Will compressing to 1000KB reduce quality?
- We keep the highest quality that still fits 1000KB. For typical photos 1000KB keeps good detail; very large originals may soften slightly, which is expected at this size.
- What formats can I compress to 1000KB?
- JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF inputs are supported. JPEG output usually reaches 1000KB with the best quality-to-size balance.
- Is the 1000KB compressor free and private?
- Yes. It is free to use, and uploads are processed on secure servers and auto-deleted after processing.
- Is 1000 KB the same as 1 MB?
- Almost. A megabyte is 1,024 KB here, so 1000 KB is about 0.98 MB, a little under 1 MB, which covers a form that counts a megabyte the same way. If the form counts a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes and still refuses the file, lower the target a little and run it again.
- Is resizing an image to 1000 KB the same as compressing it?
- In everyday wording, yes: to resize image to 1000KB usually means making the file weigh 1000 KB or less, which the Target file size (KB) field does. Resizing in the pixel sense changes width and height and is a separate job. If a form lists pixels as well as KB, set the pixels first, then run the compression.
- Can I make a PDF of 1000 KB or less with this page?
- This page saves an image file, JPG by default, and does not create PDFs. Turn the picture into a PDF with Image to PDF, check the PDF size, and use Compress PDF if it is still over. Compress PDF offers levels such as Screen and E-book instead of an exact number.
- What quality does a 1000 KB photo have?
- Usually a high one. The compressor looks for the highest quality that fits, and 1000 KB leaves far more room than a 100 KB limit, so a camera photo often keeps its pixel size and loses far less detail. Zoom to full size on skies and skin to check the result.
- Is a 1000 KB photo size the same as 1000 pixels?
- A 1000KB photo size is how much the file weighs, about 1 MB, while 1000 pixels would be a width or a height. A picture 1000 pixels across can weigh 100 KB or 1000 KB depending on its detail and quality. If a form gives a pixel size as well, treat it as a separate rule.
- How do I compress an image to 1000KB online?
- Upload the image, check that Target file size (KB) reads 1000, and select See result. Most photos reach 1000 KB by lowering quality alone, so the pixel size usually stays. Read the new size beside the original on the result screen, then download the JPG.
- Can I use this as a 1000 KB JPG converter for HEIC and PNG files?
- Yes. Upload the HEIC, PNG or WebP file and the download is a JPG of about 1000 KB or less. A transparent PNG gets a white background, because JPEG cannot hold transparency. Keep Output Format on JPEG when the form names JPG.
- How do I compress JPG to 1000KB if it is only a little over?
- Upload it with the target at 1000 and select See result. A JPG only slightly over 1 MB needs a small quality drop and keeps its pixel size. Because the search keeps the highest quality that fits, the result may come back just under the limit.
