Converting .raw camera files to JPG, and what .raw can mean

The .raw extension isn't tied to one maker. Older Panasonic Lumix cameras such as the DMC-FZ8 saved their RAW files as .raw before Panasonic moved to RW2, and some Leica and other compacts of that era did the same. Those files convert here. Other software also uses .raw for things that aren't camera photos at all, such as headerless pixel dumps from scientific or industrial cameras, audio or disk images; the converter can't develop those and shows an error instead of a picture.
