Why convert RAW to PNG?
- PNG is supported far more widely than RAW, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.
- PNG is made for screenshots, logos, text graphics and cut-outs.
- No Photoshop or Lightroom needed: the file is opened on our servers and you download a ready-to-use PNG.
What to expect when converting RAW to PNG
- The RAW file is developed at full resolution with your camera’s white balance. Keep the original RAW to re-edit exposure later.
- Your original RAW file isn’t changed: you download a new PNG copy.

Archiving old .raw camera files as PNG
If you're clearing out a drive of 2000s Panasonic or Leica compact photos saved as .raw, the question is what to keep them as. PNG is a lossless choice: every pixel of the developed picture is stored exactly, the file opens in practically any image app, and re-saving it later loses nothing.
Two other options are worth weighing. A JPG is several times smaller and fine for viewing and sharing; the .raw to JPG page makes those. TIFF, selectable under Output format in Settings, is lossless as well and is the format many print services request. Whichever you pick, hang on to the .raw originals: the converted file has 8 bits per channel and a fixed development, while the RAW can be developed again with better software in future.
For a large archive, batch mode converts up to 60 files at a time on Premium and 200 on Pro, delivered as one ZIP in which each entry is numbered and keeps its original name. To share a selection with family, arrange favorites in a collage or put them in a PDF album.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert RAW to PNG?
- Upload your RAW file above. It is converted to PNG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
- Does converting RAW to PNG lose quality?
- No. Both formats are lossless, so every pixel is kept exactly.
- RAW or PNG: which should I use?
- Use RAW for adjusting exposure and white balance with maximum latitude. Use PNG for screenshots, logos, text graphics and cut-outs. Keep in mind the main drawback of PNG: large files for photographs.
- What is a RAW file?
- RAW is a RAW extension used by some Panasonic, Leica and other compact cameras. It stores the unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude, so most apps can’t show it as a normal picture.
- Can I convert RAW to PNG without Photoshop or Lightroom?
- Yes. The RAW file is opened on our servers, so you don’t need Photoshop or Lightroom or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished PNG.
- Is the RAW to PNG converter free?
- Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
