RW2 to JPG for Panasonic Lumix photos

Panasonic Lumix cameras write RW2: the G and GH Micro Four Thirds bodies, the full-frame S series, and the LX, FZ and TZ (ZS in North America) compacts and bridge cameras. The JPG made here comes from the sensor data alone, with the white balance recorded at capture and automatic brightness, so the Photo Style you selected, whether Standard, Vivid or L.Monochrome, isn't applied.

Lens correction is the other difference. Many Lumix lenses, especially compact zooms at their widest setting, are designed to be corrected in software, and the camera does that for its own JPGs. This converter doesn't, so a converted RW2 can show bowed lines near the edges and darker corners that the camera's JPG didn't have. If the corners bother you, crop a little off each edge, and straighten a tilted horizon while you're at it.

High Resolution mode composites on bodies like the S1R and G9 are far bigger than ordinary frames and can exceed the upload size or the pixel ceiling of the converter, so convert a normal frame if one is refused. For an upload form with a size cap, bring the JPG down to 100 KB or whatever the form allows.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert RW2 to JPG?
Upload your RW2 file above. It is converted to JPG automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting RW2 to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality in Settings for a closer copy.
RW2 or JPG: which should I use?
Use RW2 for adjusting exposure and white balance with maximum latitude. Use JPG for photos you share, email, print or upload. Keep in mind the main drawback of JPG: no transparency, and every re-save loses a little more detail.
What is a RW2 file?
RW2 is the RAW format of Panasonic Lumix cameras. It stores the unprocessed sensor data for maximum editing latitude, so most apps can’t show it as a normal picture.
Can I convert RW2 to JPG without Photoshop or Lightroom?
Yes. The RW2 file is opened on our servers, so you don’t need Photoshop or Lightroom or any other software installed. Upload the file, then download the finished JPG.
