RW2 to PNG stills for thumbnails and video projects

Lumix hybrids such as the GH and S series are widely used by video makers, who often shoot a few RAW stills on set for thumbnails, posters and channel art. Converting those RW2 files to PNG keeps edges clean for the text and graphics that go on top, since PNG adds no compression artifacts around sharp lines.

The PNG is developed at full resolution with the camera's recorded white balance and automatic brightness, at 8 bits per channel. Log and Cinelike Photo Styles change the camera's JPGs and video, not the RAW data, so a still taken with V-Log selected comes out with ordinary contrast here rather than the flat look you saw on the monitor.

From here, build the thumbnail with text and graphics, or resize the still to 1280 × 720 for a 16:9 slot. Lumix frames are usually 4:3 on Micro Four Thirds bodies or 3:2 on the full-frame S series, so a 16:9 thumbnail means cropping or filling the top and bottom.
