Counting egg cartons and filled trays in a stack
This page counts egg packs, not eggs. Packhouses count filled cartons and trays at the end of grading, shops and wholesalers check deliveries against the order, and chilled stores count stock before dispatch. Closed cartons stacked on a cart or pallet show their short ends or long sides; photograph that face straight-on so each carton reads as one rectangle.
Pulp trays stacked with eggs show a repeating pattern of cups and egg tops, which can draw dots on eggs rather than trays. Mark one complete tray edge or carton end as your example and check the result. Cartons of different sizes, such as half-dozens and dozens, need an example each. Carrying a phone from a cold store into warmer air fogs the lens, so let it settle or wipe it before shooting. Stacks behind the front face are hidden, so count each accessible side.
Label each tally row with the grade or customer and export the CSV to reconcile packed cartons with recorded lay numbers. To count the eggs themselves in trays or baskets, use the egg counter. Plastic crates of packed product are counted on the crate counter.
Frequently asked questions
- Can it count a full stack when some items are hidden?
- It can only estimate the visible photo content. For regular stacks, photograph and review each accessible face, correct the tally, and treat any multiplication by depth as an estimate. A marked image supports review but does not prove the physical quantity.
- What if the photo has more than just egg cartons in it?
- The counter automatically looks for egg cartons in your photo. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
