Tips for an accurate count
• Use an even, well-lit photo with the crates fully in frame
• Check that each marked example boxes a whole crates rather than a repeated part
• Dots and heatmap show retained detections — review and correct the tally
About the Crates Counter
The crates counter counts visible crates from your photo and marks detections for review. Auto mode uses the selected item name. For a guided recount, mark up to three examples of what you want counted. Visibility, overlap and similar-looking items can affect the total. Built for warehouses, hauliers and logistics yards.
How It Works
1. Photograph your crates
2. Check that crates is selected, then choose Count
3. Review the markers and correct the tally; add example boxes for a guided recount if needed
4. Add to the tally sheet and export your count as CSV
Perfect For
• Goods-in reviews against the manifest before signing
• Cycle counts across racking without a ladder
• Load-out checks before dispatch approval
• Evidence photos when a delivery is short
Counting plastic crates in columns, on dollies or on pallets
Bakeries, dairies, drink distributors and produce packers run pools of returnable crates, and the number going out to customers rarely matches the number coming back. Warehouses also count full crates at goods-in and before dispatch. Crates usually stand in columns on dollies or pallets; photograph the front of each column straight-on, from a distance where the top and bottom crate both fit in the frame.
Empty crates nest inside each other, so a column of empties shows a stack of rims rather than whole crates. Mark the band of one rim as your example and check that each band carries exactly one dot. Full crates stacked squarely show their whole side, which is easier. Crates in several colors often belong to different customers or pools; marking one of each color, up to three, gives a separate figure for each in the Found per example list. Columns behind the front row are hidden, so photograph each row from its own side.
Use the tally label for the customer or the pool and export the CSV to settle crate balances. Cardboard cartons are handled on the box counter, and loaded pallets as whole units on the pallet counter.
Before counting a crate column
- Full and nested empty crates kept in separate columns
- Whole column in frame, from the dolly to the top rim
- One example per crate color when pools are mixed
Frequently asked questions
- Can it count a full stack when some items are hidden?
- It can only estimate the visible photo content. For regular stacks, photograph and review each accessible face, correct the tally, and treat any multiplication by depth as an estimate. A marked image supports review but does not prove the physical quantity.
- What if the photo has more than just crates in it?
- Auto mode uses the selected item name to find what to count. For a guided recount, mark one complete, clearly visible crates — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. If you use example boxes, mark them separately on each photo. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
