Avoid an A4 export when your recipient expects US Letter
Use the paper size expected by a US Letter printer or document request. This page starts with Letter selected, avoiding an accidental A4 export. Review each image's scale and margins before printing or sending the finished PDF.
Letter-size administrative packets
Combine image pages for a request specifying US Letter and check the receiving organization's content and upload rules separately.
Handouts for Letter-paper printers
Create a consistent document from mixed image sizes and review the printed scale before producing multiple copies.
Prepare Letter pages and check printer scaling
- Choose your images; the paper control starts on Letter.
- Set orientation and margins, checking that small text remains legible at Letter size.
- Download the PDF and choose the appropriate scaling option in your printer dialog.
Letter defaults, printer overrides and OCR options
- What is the difference between Letter and A4 PDF pages?
- US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. A4 is 210 × 297 mm and has different proportions, which can change margins and printer scaling.
- Is Letter actually selected before I upload?
- Yes. Letter is selected when this page opens. You can change it if your document needs another paper size.
- Will my printer automatically use the PDF's Letter size?
- Printer settings may override the document size or apply scaling. Check the selected paper tray and print preview in your PDF viewer.
- Can I make a searchable Letter-size PDF?
- Yes. Select Make text searchable and choose the source language. The OCR layer supports recognized text while the visible pages use the chosen layout.
- Can I make a Legal-size PDF here?
- No. The paper choices are A4, Letter and Image fit. For a longer page, choose Image fit with an image that already has the shape you need, or use Letter and accept the extra white space. There is no Legal or custom millimeter size.
- Why is the margin slider in millimeters on a Letter page?
- The control uses millimeters for every paper size, from 0 to 40 mm. For a US reader that is about 0 to 1.6 inches, and 25 mm is close to one inch. There is no inch setting, so convert the margin you want before you move the slider.
- How do I turn a photo of a US form into a full-page Letter PDF?
- Crop the photo to the sheet's edges, add it, keep Letter and set the margin to 0 mm. The picture is scaled to fit and centered, and a form photographed straight on has proportions close to Letter. Check that no edge is trimmed before you print.
- Will a Letter PDF print correctly on A4 paper?
- It prints, but your viewer or printer scales it or crops an edge, because A4 is about 6 mm narrower and 18 mm taller than Letter. Choose the scaling option in the print dialog on purpose, and print one test page before a large run.
- How do I fix one sideways page in a Letter PDF?
- The Pages list has no rotate control, so turn the image upright with Rotate Image before you add it. Orientation is one setting for the whole document, so rotating the image itself is the way to fix a single sideways page.
- Is a Letter PDF smaller or larger in file size than A4?
- File size depends on the images, not the paper. Letter and A4 hold the same pixels, so a document of full-resolution photos is large on either. Reduce the photos, or use a PDF compressor on the finished file, if it must fit a size limit.
