Save screenshots as a PDF in the order you captured them

This page combines screenshots into one PDF, one screenshot per page, for a support ticket, a bug report, a record of a web page or a set of instructions. It starts on Image fit so each page takes the exact shape of its screenshot: a tall phone capture stays tall and a wide desktop capture stays wide. You can still switch to A4 or Letter when the PDF is headed for a printer.

Put the captures in the order they happened

Screenshots are saved with names made from a date and time, and a folder can sort them differently from the order you took them. Check the Pages list, which numbers each row, and move rows until the sequence tells the story: the problem, the steps, the result. Drag rows or use the arrows, and remove accidental captures with the trash icon before you build.

  1. Add the screenshots from your gallery or downloads folder.
  2. Read the numbered rows as the story you want to tell.
  3. Move rows, remove duplicates and keep Image fit unless you will print.
  4. Select Make my PDF, then open the file and scroll through it.

Image fit keeps each screen whole

With Image fit the page is the size of its screenshot, nothing is cropped and no margin is added, so Orientation and Margins are switched off. Mixed phone and desktop captures give pages of different shapes in one document, which reads well on screen. If the PDF will be printed, switch to A4 or Letter: every screenshot is then scaled to fit a standard page, and a small capture is enlarged and can look soft.

Keep tiny interface text readable

In the normal PDF mode each screenshot is re-saved as a JPEG image when the file is built, so very fine text can look a little softer than the original PNG. Capture at the screen's native zoom and avoid shrinking a window to fit, then open the PDF at 100% and read a line of small text. For a document that people will search, choose Make text searchable and a Document language.

Handle long pages, private details and notes

A scrolling capture saved as one tall image becomes one tall page, which is fine on screen but awkward on paper, so capture in screens instead. Notifications, email addresses and account names often sit in the corners: crop them out, or cover personal details in the finished PDF. To point at something, add notes and highlights to the PDF.

Before you share the screenshot PDF

  • Include the window title or address bar when the source of a capture matters.
  • Check each screenshot for notifications or personal details before you add it.
  • To copy the words instead of keeping the picture, read the screenshot as text.

Make related screen captures easier to follow and share

Keep related screen captures together in a PDF that is easier to browse and share. Check that each screenshot includes the context you need, arrange them in order, and enable OCR if searchable text would make the record more useful.

Support issue walkthroughs

Arrange screenshots of a problem in sequence so a support colleague can follow the visible steps in one document.

Reference copies of displayed information

Save selected screen views together, keeping visible dates and headings that explain what each capture represents.

Keep screenshot context and arrange a readable sequence

  1. Capture complete views with readable text and enough context to identify each screen.
  2. Upload and order the screenshots; image-fit pages start selected to follow their proportions.
  3. Enable OCR when useful, then export and inspect the page sequence and small text.

Screen capture limits, image-fit pages and text search

Does screenshot to PDF capture the screen for me?
Take screenshots on your device first, then upload those image files. This page converts the captures you supply.
Will a PDF include content outside my screenshots?
No. It includes only the uploaded captures. Hidden menus, off-screen rows and omitted parts of a webpage are not recovered.
Why does this screenshot PDF start with image-fit pages?
Screenshots vary in shape. Image fit follows the image proportions; choose A4 or Letter if the result needs a standard paper size.
Can OCR make screenshot text searchable without changing its appearance?
Searchable mode retains the visible screenshot and adds recognized text. Test important search terms because tiny interface labels may be misread.
How do I put a long web page into a PDF with screenshots?
Take the page in screens that overlap by a few lines, add them in order and keep Image fit. Each screen becomes one page, so a long page becomes a short sequence of pages. A single very tall capture also works, but it becomes one tall page that is awkward to print.
Can I mix phone and desktop screenshots in one PDF?
Yes. With Image fit each page takes the shape of its own screenshot, so the document contains tall and wide pages. For a document with uniform pages, choose A4 or Letter, and every screenshot is scaled to fit inside the margins and centered.
Will a small screenshot look blurry on an A4 or Letter page?
It can. The image is scaled to fit the page and a small image is enlarged, so a capture only 600 pixels wide is stretched across a page about 8 inches wide. Use Image fit for reading on screen, or capture at a higher zoom if it must fill a printed page.
How do I add arrows or notes to the screenshots?
This page only places images on pages. Mark the PDF afterwards with Annotate PDF, which adds text notes, color highlights and stamps, or edit the screenshots in an image editor before you add them.
Can I make a PDF of screenshots from my phone?
Yes. Open the page in your phone's browser, add the screenshots from the gallery and build the PDF, which downloads to the phone. Add them in the order you want, since a gallery may list the newest first.
Does the PDF keep the clickable links of the screenshotted page?
No. A screenshot is a picture, so links, buttons and selectable text on the original page are not in the PDF. Use Make text searchable if you want recognized words, and write out any URL you need as text next to the page.
