Signature Generator

Draw with mouse or touch, or type your name — get a transparent PNG signature

How to make a signature online and save it as a transparent PNG

This signature generator makes an image of your handwritten signature that you can place on a PDF, a Word or Google Docs file or an email footer. Draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, or type your name and pick a handwriting style. The result downloads as a PNG with a transparent background, trimmed to the ink, so it sits on a page like real ink instead of a white box.

Draw your signature with a mouse, finger or stylus

Stay on the Draw tab and sign on the pad. Pen color offers Black, Blue and Ink blue, and Stroke width runs from 1 to 8. A new pen color applies only to strokes you draw afterward, so ink already on the pad keeps its color; select Clear and sign again instead. The save button stays disabled until the pad has ink. Sign at a comfortable size, because the PNG is cropped to the ink and the empty space on the pad is removed.

  1. Open the Draw tab and set Pen color and Stroke width.
  2. Sign on the pad, and select Clear if you want to start again.
  3. Select Create my signature to save signature.png.
  4. Or select Copy to put the image on your clipboard.

Type your name in a handwriting style

Switch to the Type tab, enter Your name and choose one of eight handwriting styles, such as Great Vibes, Dancing Script or Homemade Apple. Each style card previews your own name, and the Pen color you pick colors the whole name at once. The name is rendered large and cropped to its edges, so a long name is not clipped. With the field empty, the save button stays disabled.

Copy or save the signature as a PNG with no background

The PNG has a fully transparent background and a small margin around the ink, so it can sit over a signature line without a white box. The pad works at twice its display size and typed names are drawn large, which helps the edges stay clean at normal document sizes. Copy puts the same image on the clipboard where the browser allows it. If the browser does not, the page tells you to use the save button instead.

Use your signature on a PDF, a document or an email

To sign a PDF, place the PNG on a PDF page by choosing Upload in that tool. It also has its own draw and type options, so you only need this page when you want a reusable file. For a form, fill in the PDF form first and add the signature last. In Word, Google Docs or an email, insert the PNG as a picture and resize it by a corner. It is an image of a signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.

Before you use your signature file

  • Place the PNG over a light background, because transparent areas show whatever is behind them.
  • Choose the pen color that matches how you sign on paper.
  • Use a thicker stroke if the signature will be shown small.
  • Keep the file somewhere private, since anyone who has it can paste your signature.
  • Ask the recipient whether an image of a signature is accepted for that document.

Upload it to sign a PDF with the image you just made, and for a form with fields, fill in the answers before signing. Certificates you generate with typed signatory names can carry it too, and a signature photographed on paper can be lifted onto a transparent background instead of redrawn.
