ARW to PNG for thumbnails, overlays and designed images
Plenty of Sony cameras double as video cameras, and the people who own them, from A7S shooters to ZV-series vloggers, often take stills for thumbnails, channel art and overlays. Those images collect text, shapes and cut-outs and get saved several times along the way. Starting from a PNG means none of those saves stacks JPG compression on the photo, and lettering you add later stays crisp.
You get a straight copy of the developed photo at full resolution, stored with 8 bits per color channel. That is plenty for a design, but it makes a big file for a photograph, usually several times the size of a JPG of the same frame. There is no quality slider for PNG on this page, because nothing is thrown away to make the file smaller.
From here, put a headline on the frame or build a 1280 × 720 YouTube thumbnail around it. When the finished design has to load quickly on a website, turn the PNG into a much smaller WebP; when the photo is only going to be shared as it is, the ARW to JPG page produces a far lighter file.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert ARW to PNG?

- ARW or PNG: which should I use?

- What is a ARW file?
