Hasselblad 3FR to PNG for retouching and product cut-outs

Studio still life and product work is where many H-series files end up, and those images rarely leave untouched: a retoucher removes dust and reflections, or the product is cut out for a catalog page. A PNG is a sensible handoff when the person doing that work has no Phocus installation, because it stores the developed picture without adding compression artifacts every time the file is saved again.

Two limits are worth knowing before you hand it over. This PNG holds 8 bits per color channel while the 3FR recorded many more tonal steps, so heavy shadow recovery or color grading is still best done from the RAW in a RAW editor. And a full-resolution medium-format PNG is large, sometimes larger than the 3FR itself, whereas a JPG of the same frame is a fraction of that. If the retoucher or a print house works in TIFF, pick TIFF from the output list in Settings on this page instead.

When a product needs a clean edge, cut it out of the studio backdrop from the PNG, or set it on pure white for a marketplace listing. A client who only wants to look through the set is better served by the JPG version of this converter, which makes far lighter files.
