Counting sports balls after a training session
Sports balls go missing one at a time, which is why clubs, schools and coaches count them after every session, at the start and end of a season, and when a shop checks stock and returns. A photo of the balls spread on the floor turns that into a quick check and a record of losses across a term.
A bin or mesh bag only shows the top layer, and the mesh hides the balls behind it, so tip them out onto the floor or a court and spread them a little. Shoot from a step or a bleacher so you look down on them rather than across. A mixed cart of soccer balls, basketballs and volleyballs needs one marked example of each kind in Similar items, and the Found per example rows show how many of each. Balls pushed into a corner hide each other, so roll them into a loose group.
Log each corrected count under the team or session name; a season of rows in one CSV shows when balls started disappearing. Courtside baskets of tennis balls and driving range golf balls have their own pages with the details that suit them.

Frequently asked questions
- Does it work on a loose pile?
- It can only mark the visible layer. Spread items one layer deep, mark a clear example, and review and correct the result markers. Treat a visible-face count on a large pile as an estimate and use the same framing between checks.
- What if the photo has more than just balls in it?
- The counter automatically looks for balls in your photo. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
