PNG to Text — Copy Readable Words from an Image

Select a PNG containing the words you want to copy

Read text from a PNG image into an editable result. Check small labels, symbols and line order before copying the recognized words or downloading TXT.

  • Text distributed in PNG attachments
  • Small interface-label references

All image formats (JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, TIFF…)

Convert PNG to text, then copy it, edit it or save it as a file

This PNG to text converter reads the lettering in a PNG screenshot, exported slide, scanned page or graphic and returns plain text. Copy the words, correct them in the box on the page, or save them as a .txt file. Choose the language, select Extract text, and review what comes back.

Create text file from PNG and save it as TXT

As a PNG to TXT converter, the page ends with Text (.txt), the first format in the Download as menu and not one of the paid formats. The saved file holds the Formatted text, which keeps the original line breaks and spacing positions, even when the box is switched to Plain. Because it is plain text, the file opens in Notepad, TextEdit or any code editor, and you can paste its contents into anything else.

  1. Upload the PNG, or drop it onto the upload area.
  2. Pick the language of the lettering if it is not English.
  3. Select Extract text and wait for the words to appear in the text box.
  4. Keep Text (.txt) selected under Download as, then select See result.
  5. Select Download to save the file.

Copy the words from a PNG without saving a file

Copy Text sends everything in the box to your clipboard, including corrections you typed. When the PNG holds columns, a form or a slide, Formatted keeps their spacing, while Plain gives simple line-broken text that pastes cleanly into an email. The switch shows only when the two versions differ. Typed corrections do not reach the downloaded .txt, which holds the text as first read, so copy your edited version instead of downloading it.

Save PNG text as Markdown, Word, Excel or CSV

Download as also lists Markdown (.md), Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and CSV (.csv). Word, Excel and CSV are marked as paid formats: an export allowance first, then Premium or credits. Excel and CSV are meant for tables, so a PNG of a grid is better served by reading its cells into an Excel sheet. Image to Word has a text mode on its own page if you prefer to build a Word document from the recognized text.

Edit, translate or add words in a PNG

This converter reads the picture and leaves it untouched, so the PNG itself does not change. To edit text inside the image, replace the text in the picture: you select the words, the background behind them is repaired, and your new text goes in, as long as the lines are straight. For fresh lettering, use Add Text to Image. To read what the picture says in another language, translate the text in the PNG.

Before you extract text from a PNG

  • Start from the original PNG, not a shrunken or re-saved copy, so the letters keep clean edges.
  • Crop out menus, borders and unrelated areas so only the words you need are read.
  • Set Language before you extract. Changing it or the Engine afterward clears the result, so you run Extract text again.
  • Compare names, numbers and punctuation with the picture before you reuse the text.

Get selectable words from an image-only attachment

Extract words from a PNG without converting the image to another format. Sharp source lettering helps, but small labels and symbols still need checking before you reuse the text in a document, message or search.

Text distributed in PNG attachments

Recover a readable text copy from an image-only notice while retaining the source for checking exact wording.

Small interface-label references

Copy labels from a saved PNG for documentation, verifying punctuation and capitalization before using them as instructions.

Read the original PNG and verify its smallest characters

  1. Upload a full-size PNG with readable lettering and contrast.
  2. Extract and compare small symbols, names and line order with the image.
  3. Edit misread words in the result box and use Copy text; a saved file is the extracted text without your edits.

Tiny labels, transparent backgrounds and table outputs

Does PNG to text use hidden text stored inside the image?
The conversion recognizes visible pixels. It does not recover the source document or assume that the PNG contains an embedded text layer.
Why are tiny PNG labels misread even without compression?
Lossless storage preserves the available pixels, but very small letters may still lack enough detail. Use a larger original capture if possible.
Can I extract text from a transparent PNG?
Recognition needs clear contrast. If the lettering is hard to see against the preview background, prepare a contrasting copy before extraction.
Should a table PNG be exported as text or CSV?
Choose text when you need the words. Choose PNG to CSV or Excel when keeping values in reviewed rows and columns matters.
How do I create a text file from a PNG?
Upload the PNG, select Extract text, and check the words in the box. Then keep Text (.txt) under Download as, select See result, and then select Download. The .txt option is not marked as a paid format, so it needs no Premium plan.
Can I save text from a PNG as a Word document?
Yes. Choose Word (.docx) under Download as and select the button under it, which shows the available paid export option. The recognized text becomes the paragraphs of a new document. Word downloads require Premium or credits, while Text (.txt) and Markdown (.md) are not marked as paid.
Should I convert my JPG to PNG before extracting text?
Upload the file you have. Converting a JPG to PNG keeps the same pixels, including any compression blur, so PNG to text gains nothing from it. If you still have the original screenshot or export, use that instead.
Can I create a text file from a PNG for free?
Yes, for everyday use. Extracting the text, copying it and saving a .txt or Markdown file do not need a paid plan. Batch mode needs Premium, and Word, Excel and CSV downloads use an export allowance first and then Premium or credits.
