Turning a handwritten signature into a transparent PNG

Freelancers, small businesses and HR teams sign contracts, invoices and offer letters again and again, and a transparent signature image saves printing and scanning each one. Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, ideally a felt-tip or gel pen that lays down solid ink, and photograph the page flat in daylight so your phone does not cast a shadow across it. Fill most of the frame with the signature.

The page opens with a transparent background, so the paper disappears and only the ink remains, ready to sit on any document. Zoom in on thin strokes, dots and the tail of the last letter, because faint lines are the first to break up; Restore brings back a stroke that was trimmed. Ink color comes from your photo, so a blue signature stays blue.

To place the signature on a PDF page, upload the PNG in the signing tool, or draw or type a new signature instead if the paper version is not usable. Keep the file somewhere private: anyone who has the image can paste it into a document.

Before you sign and photograph

• Use clean white paper with no lines or watermark pattern
• Sign a little larger than usual for crisper strokes
• Hold the phone parallel to the paper to avoid a slanted signature
• Check every stroke at full size before downloading
