Converting AVIF to WebP for platforms that accept WebP only

Some content systems, page builders and image plugins accept WebP but not AVIF, and some older browsers and apps that predate AVIF can still show WebP. Moving to WebP keeps the qualities that made AVIF attractive for the web, transparency and a choice of lossy or lossless compression, in exchange for somewhat larger files.

Since the AVIF is usually lossy already, the WebP is a second lossy generation. Keep the slider high, around 85 to 90, unless file size is the priority, and compare the preview with the original at full zoom. For flat graphics and logos, Lossless mode preserves exactly what the AVIF decoded to, at a larger size.

If the reason for converting is an editor or upload form rather than a website, WebP may still be refused there; PNG and JPG are the formats nearly every app reads. To shave the WebP further afterwards, compress it toward a target size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert AVIF to WebP?
Upload your AVIF file above. It is converted to WebP automatically (change the output format or quality in the Settings tab if you need to), then click Download. There is nothing to install.
Does converting AVIF to WebP lose quality?
WebP is lossy by default, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. Raise the quality or switch on lossless in Settings for a closer copy.
Will the WebP keep the transparent background?
Yes. WebP supports smooth, partial transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
AVIF or WebP: which should I use?
Use AVIF for the smallest high-quality images for websites and apps. Use WebP for websites, online stores and blogs that need fast-loading images. Keep in mind the main drawback of WebP: older apps and some upload forms don’t accept it.
What is a AVIF file?
AVIF compresses still images with the AV1 video codec. It usually produces smaller files than JPG and WebP at the same visual quality and supports HDR and transparency.
Is the AVIF to WebP converter free?
Yes. Convert, preview and download a single result without creating an account. Premium adds batch conversion (many files into one ZIP) and larger uploads.
