Why convert ODG to PDF?

  • Every page of the ODG becomes a page in the PDF, in the same order.
  • Text and shapes stay vectors, so the PDF stays sharp at any zoom and prints crisply.
  • Text stays selectable and searchable, so you can copy it or find a word.
  • PDF is supported far more widely than ODG, so the file is easier to open, share and upload.

What to expect when converting ODG to PDF

  • Fonts that aren’t embedded in the file are replaced with close equivalents of the same size and spacing.
  • Your original ODG file isn’t changed: you download a new PDF copy.

In short: choose ODG for diagrams and drawings made in OpenDocument office apps; choose PDF for sharing, printing and archiving complete documents.

Converting an ODG drawing to a multi-page vector PDF

A PDF keeps an OpenDocument drawing as it was designed: every page in sequence, shapes and text as vectors, and text selectable. That makes it the right format for sending a floor plan or poster to a print shop, attaching a process diagram to a report, or sharing with someone who has no OpenDocument app.

Fonts the drawing uses that are not available to the converter are replaced with close matches, which can widen or narrow labels inside boxes; check that no label spills out of its shape. Pictures that the drawing only links to, rather than stores, come out blank, so embed them and save the ODG again before converting.

A drawing spread over several pages, such as a plan with one sheet per floor, becomes a single PDF with one page per sheet, in the same order. After converting, add notes or highlights for reviewers, attach the diagram to the end of a report, or render a single page as a PNG for a presentation slide.
