Why convert PNG to PDF?

  • The PDF page is sized to your image, so it prints and previews without cropping or extra borders.
  • Anyone can open the PDF in the viewer built into their browser, phone or computer.

What to expect when converting PNG to PDF

  • PDF can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick in Settings (white by default).
  • You get one page per image, with the picture embedded as a high-quality JPEG. To combine several images into one PDF, use the Image to PDF tool.

In short: choose PNG for screenshots, logos, text graphics and cut-outs; choose PDF for emailing, printing and attaching images to forms and applications.

Saving a PNG screenshot or chart as a one-page PDF

A PNG screenshot of a booking confirmation, a chart for a report or a form saved as PNG often needs to travel as a PDF: some portals accept only documents, and a PDF prints predictably. This converter places the PNG on a single page cut to the picture's own proportions, with no margins.

Two settings matter for PNG in particular. The PDF page has no transparency, so transparent areas take the Background fill color, white by default; a light logo on a clear background may need a dark fill to stay visible. The picture is also stored inside the PDF as a JPEG, so zoom in on small type in the result and raise the slider toward 100 if the letters look soft.

One PNG makes one page. To turn several screenshots into a single document, combine them in order on A4 or Letter pages, or join PDFs you already made. If someone needs to search or copy the words in the screenshot, create a searchable PDF instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to PDF?

Does converting PNG to PDF lose quality?
The image is embedded in the PDF as a high-quality JPEG at its full pixel size.
Will the PDF keep the transparent background?

PNG or PDF: which should I use?
Use PNG for screenshots, logos, text graphics and cut-outs. Use PDF for emailing, printing and attaching images to forms and applications. Keep in mind the main drawback of PDF: the picture isn’t editable as an image until you convert it back.
What is a PNG file?
