Counting sewing buttons for a garment run or trim order

These are sewing buttons, the trim a garment factory or haberdashery needs in hand before a production run, not an on-screen click counter. Trim stores count them to check a haberdashery order on arrival, to audit stock by color and size, and to reconcile buttons used against garments produced. A marked tray photo makes those counts quick and leaves a record of what was on hand.

Buttons are mostly flat discs, so spread them face up on a tray in one layer; a button lying face down shows its back and may look different. Pick a tray that contrasts with the stock: dark for white, clear and pearl buttons, light for navy and black ones. Two-hole, four-hole and shank buttons differ from above, and mixed colors are common, so mark up to three examples in Similar items and use the Found per example rows to see the split. Buttons still sewn onto cards can be counted as cards instead.

Pale and pearl buttons can blend into a light background, so look closely at those markers, then label the tally row with color code and size. Garments coming off the line can be counted into the same stock-take to match buttons used against units made, and craft beads follow a similar small-item routine.

Button tray checks

  • All buttons face up in a single layer
  • Tray color chosen to contrast with the buttons
  • One example per hole style or color, up to three
  • Carded buttons counted as cards, loose ones as buttons

Frequently asked questions

Do the items need to be separated before counting?
Slight touching can work, but full overlaps hide items and make the result less reliable. Spread them one layer deep under even light, mark a clear example, and review every result marker.
What if the photo has more than just buttons in it?
The counter automatically looks for buttons in your photo. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
Can I count several photos into one total?
Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
Is it free and private?
Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
