Count screws in a tray from a photo
Works with JPG, PNG, WEBP · Free up to 20 MB, Premium 50 MB
Spread the screws one layer deep on a tray or flat surface and photograph from directly above — counted detections receive dots for review. Built for factories, fastener suppliers and maintenance stores — review and correct each photo before adding it to a CSV or PDF tally.
- Review the photo, then count visible screws
- Count without marking; add example boxes if you need a guided recount
- Stop counting the same screws twice to be sure of the total

Tips for an accurate count
• Use an even, well-lit photo with the screws fully in frame
• Check that each marked example boxes a whole screws rather than a repeated part
• Dots and heatmap show retained detections — review and correct the tally
About the Screws Counter
The screws counter counts visible screws from your photo and marks detections for review. Auto mode uses the selected item name. For a guided recount, mark up to three examples of what you want counted. Visibility, overlap and similar-looking items can affect the total. Built for factories, fastener suppliers and maintenance stores.
How It Works
1. Photograph your screws
2. Check that screws is selected, then choose Count
3. Review the markers and correct the tally; add example boxes for a guided recount if needed
4. Add to the tally sheet and export your count as CSV
Perfect For
• Kitting and order-picking checks before packing
• Incoming QC counts against the packing slip
• Bin and drawer stock audits in a maintenance store
• Verifying a bulk box quantity against the label
Screw counter: checking a box or kit quantity from one tray photo
In many stores a screw counter means a counting scale, which needs a weighed sample and tells you nothing about which screws were included. A photo count gives you a marked image instead: every screw it found carries a marker you can check. Maintenance stores, kitting benches and goods-in teams use it to confirm a bulk box against its label, to verify a kit before packing, or to audit a drawer bin between full stock-takes.
Screws roll and settle at odd angles, so tip the box onto a flat tray with a raised edge and shake it until nothing rests on anything else. Pick a tray that contrasts with the finish: dark under bright zinc, pale under black-oxide screws. Long screws that cross form an X that can be read as one item, so push crossings apart. For mixed lengths, Similar items accepts up to three marked examples, one per length, and the result lists how many matched each example.
Polished heads can throw a glint that looks like a tiny extra item; in Distinct objects mode, raising Ignore small detections drops those specks. After checking the markers, add the tray to the tally sheet with the size in the label. Bins of hex-head bolts and hex nuts are counted the same way, and the inventory counter totals a whole fastener aisle across many photos.
Tray setup for screws
- One length per photo, or one marked example per length
- A single layer with no screw lying on another
- Light raking across the tray rather than a lamp straight overhead
- Tally row labelled with size and finish, for example M4 x 20 zinc
Frequently asked questions
- Do the items need to be separated before counting?
- Slight touching can work, but full overlaps hide items and make the result less reliable. Spread them one layer deep under even light, mark a clear example, and review every result marker.
- What if the photo has more than just screws in it?
- Auto mode uses the selected item name to find what to count. For a guided recount, mark one complete, clearly visible screws — up to 3 examples for different-looking kinds. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. If you use example boxes, mark them separately on each photo. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
