Tips for an accurate count
• Use an even, well-lit photo with the barrels fully in frame
• Keep your barrels visible and avoid overlapping items
• Dots and heatmap show retained detections — review and correct the tally
About the Barrels Counter
The barrels counter counts visible barrels from your photo and marks detections for review. Counting starts automatically once the photo and item are ready. Visibility, overlap and similar-looking items can affect the total. Built for warehouses, hauliers and logistics yards.
How It Works
1. Photograph your barrels
2. Upload your photo to count barrels automatically
3. Review the markers and correct the tally if needed
4. Add to the tally sheet and export your count as CSV
Perfect For
• Cellar and warehouse stock counts
• Checking deliveries and returns against the docket
• Empties reconciliation before collection
• Draft figures for a duty or excise record needing sign-off
Counting barrels and kegs in a cellar, rack or cold room
Wineries and distilleries count barrels in cellar racks for inventory and excise records, while breweries and bars count kegs at delivery and before empties are collected. Barrels stored on their sides show their round heads to the aisle, so photograph each rack section straight-on from the middle of the aisle. Kegs standing upright in a cold room are easier from above, where each top shows as a ring.
Cellars are dim, and a phone flash bounces off varnished heads and steel hoops. A work lamp aimed from one side gives even light without glare. Chalk marks, stenciled numbers and bungs on the heads rarely matter, but keep an eye on dots that land on the hoops between barrels. Racks hold barrels several deep and a photo sees only the front row, so count deeper rows from the opposite aisle or record the front figure as an estimate. Kegs of two sizes need an example of each.
Add each rack or cold room as its own tally row and keep the marked image with the stock record, which still needs your usual sign-off for excise purposes. Drums in a chemical or oil store are handled on the drum counter, and bottled stock on a shelf can be counted with the bottle counter.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I count a whole shelf accurately?
- Shoot each shelf face straight-on in even light, count the visible front row, and multiply by the row depth if the shelf is uniformly stocked — or photograph each row. The tally sheet adds shelf-by-shelf rows into one total.
- What if the photo has more than just barrels in it?
- The counter automatically looks for barrels in your photo. Similar-looking distractors can still affect the result, so review every marker before using the total.
- Can I count several photos into one total?
- Yes — count each photo and add every reviewed result to the tally sheet as a labelled row. Export the tally as CSV or a PDF report, or save it to your account.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. You can count, review and download a free result without an account. Downloads are free without a watermark. No signup required. Server-processed photos are encrypted in transit and removed under our Security policy.
