How it works

Atmospheric Depth Fog estimates relative distance, normalises that depth field, and uses a 3 × 3 median filter to remove isolated depth speckles. Farther pixels receive Beer–Lambert-style atmospheric scattering in linear-light RGB toward one restrained, source-informed airlight color whose chroma is capped toward neutral; the nearest depth band remains source-exact. Intensity changes the real optical density rather than crossfading a finished effect. At its working size, each output pixel combines only the source RGB at that same coordinate with the global airlight color: the renderer never moves, copies, spatially resamples, inpaints, or regenerates image content, so faces, arms, objects, framing, and working-frame alpha remain aligned and alpha stays byte-exact. Larger uploads can be proportionally resized before depth analysis: the standard free limit is 800 pixels on the long side, and the depth service defaults to a 2048-pixel long side for remaining larger inputs. The result is returned as a lossless PNG.

Processing

Atmospheric Depth Fog uses an AI action. Any separate allowance is shown before this effect starts processing.

Best for

landscapes, mountain and valley views, layered cityscapes, architecture, and outdoor scenes with clear foreground-to-distance separation.

Less suited to: flat or close-up scenes, glass, mirrors, reflections, smoke, fine hair or foliage, and images where monocular relative depth is uncertain; incorrect depth can place haze on the wrong surface even though geometry remains fixed.

    Atmospheric Depth Fog questions

What does the estimated depth represent?
It is model-estimated relative ordering within this photograph, not measured distance or a rebuilt 3D scene. Farther estimated regions receive more scattering; the 3 × 3 median cleanup suppresses isolated one-pixel depth errors but cannot resolve genuinely ambiguous glass, reflections, smoke, hair, foliage, or overlapping surfaces.
Can the fog reshape or duplicate my subject?
No. Within the prepared working frame, geometry never changes: source RGB is read only at its original coordinate and blended with one global atmospheric-light color. No face, arm, body, object, or background pixel is shifted, copied elsewhere, spatially resampled, inpainted, or regenerated, and alpha remains byte-exact in the lossless PNG. A wrong relative-depth estimate can change where haze appears, but it cannot deform anatomy.
